Leila grabbed my collar. “How do you have the nerve to come back with no money? You slapped me the other day. I’ll get even now!”
Then, she punched me in the face.
I felt dizzy and managed not to fall.
Kara grabbed me and kept slapping me. “Grace Parrish! If you consider us as your family, get us the 1,300,000 dollars. Then, we’ll treat you like family. Otherwise, I’ll kill you ungrateful girl today!”
What made Kara think that she could walk all over me?
Getting 2 slabs, I grabbed her wrist and slapped her harder than she did to me.
“How dare you!” Kara looked at me in disbelief.
I looked at all of them and said calmly, “From now on, you’re no longer my family.”
Antonio’s eyes widened. I ignored him and walked out.
When I was about to go downstairs, Leila caught up.
“How dare you slap my mom! I’ll kill you!” she shouted with hatred.
I felt that she pushed me behind my back. Before I knew it, fell downstairs, my head hitting the guardrail.

I was in great pain, and I felt like I could black out anytime.
I forced myself to stay conscious.
The diary almost slipped out of my clothes. I needed it to find out the cause of my mom’s death.
To prevent the diary from getting out, I managed to stand up. Under the four people’s gaze, I left the house as soon as possible.
“Grace, what happened? Why is your head bleeding?”
I went to Colin’s place by taxi. When I arrived, my brain was foggy.
I shoved the diary into his hand and said with an effort, “Keep it for me.”
The next second, I passed out in his arms.
When I came to, I was in a hospital. My head had been bandaged, and my other wounds treated again.
Colin was beside the bed. He noticed me open my eyes and said in a soothing voice, “You’re in my friend’s hospital. No one can find you. Don’t worry. You got badly injured, so I could only take you here.”
Then, he handed the diary to me. “It’s important to you, it?”
I forced a gentle smile. “Thank you, Colin.”
We’d been co–workers for 5 years, but we were ordinary friends at most.
