Chapter 88
Xander’s POV
The guards stationed in front of Sabrina’s door bowed as they saw me approach. I didn’t mean to come here, my feet just moved on their own. The inexplicable tug I felt dragged me here to her.
“Your majesty.” They said in unison. “We have kept watch, she didn’t go anywhere.”
I doubt she has anywhere to go. But knowing her, I wouldn’t be surprised if she threw herself out of the window just to escape. She may try, but she would only end up being caught again. And then she would actually incur my wrath.
“Open the door.” I commanded. They bowed again and unlocked the door.
I walked into the room, searching the space for Sabrina. I spotted her sitting in the centre of her bed, her eyes vacant and blank. She didn’t even notice I had walked in till I cleared my throat.
“Your majesty!” She squeaked, her eyes widening in surprise. She jumped to her feet and bowed. I could see her hands trembling as she clasped them together.
My eye were drawn to the open window with the view of the early evening sky outside. “Did you try to jump?”
She shook her head. “No, it was pointless anyway.”
“Good. If you had, those guards would have died. And I would have given you their heads.”
I didn’t miss how she shuddered, her face paling. That wasn’t a joke, and I’m glad she knew that too.
“I won’t run,” She said quietly. “It’s pointless.”
“Was it pointless keeping such a secret from me?”
She looked up and met my eyes. Her eyes were bloodshot and tired looking. She must have cried a lot.
“I didn’t keep any secrets from you, your Majesty.” She said.
“You’re lying to me. You’ve always lied to me.”
She took a step forward and stopped herself halfway. Her shoulders slumped, and a soft sigh slipped past her lips. “I didn’t lie. I swear on my life your majesty. I didn’t lie to you. I…”
“You didn’t know you had magic, is that what you’re saying?”
A look of despair flashed across her eyes. For a split second I glimpsed the image of a woman begging me to believe her.
As much as I tried to, this is too absurd.
“Magic isn’t something that is hidden.” I said. “It’s something you’re born with, or not born with. You can’t learn it. So there’s no way you will stand here and tell me the you didn’t know you had magic. ”
“I didn’t know”
“And you’re still lying to me!”
“I’m not lying. I didn’t know, I swear I didn’t.”
“You’ve never used magic a day in your life?”

She shook her head. No. No I haven’t. I don’t…why do 1 even be her? It’s not like you believe ine anyway
Her words caught me off guard.
This was not how I expected today to go at all. And to think that he day started on such a positive note.
Acheron’s voice suddenly echoed in my head again. “You’ve fallen for her, haven’t you?”
Could it be that I’ve fallen for her? There’s no way that could be. Even if she denies this, denied being a witch, that doesn’t change the fact that she is one.
I walked up to her, gauging her reactions closely. I waited for her to do something. Perhaps to strike out, or attack. Instead she watched me with keen eyes.
Last night she was in my bed. And now I’m stuck between sending her away and ordering for her to be executed. This isn’t how things were supposed to go at all.
“Your majesty?” Her voice drew me from my thoughts. I found myself staring at her lips, my mind wandering places it shouldn’t be going to.
What was I even doing here right now? Checking on her, when I could have Nifra or some of the guards outside do that.
Was Acheron right when he said that she had spun a spell over me?
“You,” said. “You’re confusing me.”
She blinked up at me, her eyes mirroring my confusion. Should I end it all? Should I just give the order and end this right
now?
I reached out and grabbed both sides of her face. He eyes widened and she gasped, my eyes drifted to her lips again, and I felt an excited thrill run through my body.
I lowered my head and kissed her, her lips soft and parted against mine. Her body went frozen with shock, and I grabbed her waist and pulled her closer to me.
She put her hands on my shoulders, and just when I thought she’d give in, she shoved me Away.
“Leave me alone, ” She said, her eyes sparking anger. “I..I don’t know what you’re doing.”
“What I’m doing?”
“You don’t even believe me! You want to kill me!” Tears filled her eyes. Tears she stubbornly refused to let fall. “You can’t just walk in here and kiss me, like everything is….”
What is wrong with me?
“You’re right.” I said. Anger flared inside me, but none of it directed at her. What was I thinking? She could be a threat to my life I just tried to kiss her?
“You can’t even trust me.” She whispered, hurt evident in her voice. “Why…why are you doing this to me?”
I turned to leave, unable to answer her questions.
Why am I doing this? I have no idea myself. I guess I wanted to see for myself. But see what exactly?
I walked out of her room, regretting the fact that I even came to see her in her first place. I headed back to my room, on the way mind linking a servant to get me a drink.
I wasn’t keen on alcohol, mostly because it took a lot of it to knock me out, something I hadn’t actually tested out. But right
