Chapter 10
No matter how she tried to defend herself, she couldn’t argue against the marriage date on my certificate. In the days that followed, they were all running around in chaos.
With those foul–smelling flies gone, my life become considerably more peaceful
After handling Riley’s hospital discharge, I sent her back to our hometown first
Then I went alone to the hospital for hand reconstruction surgery.
The reconstructive procedures were excruciating, but each time, I gritted my tooth and endured.
Because I know this was a path I had to walk.
After my third hand surgery, just as I returned home, someone suddenly grabbed my waist
“Ace, I’ve missed you so much…”
That familiar yet now foreign scent filled my nostrils. I jabbed back with my elbow in disgust.
“Ugh!”
Mr. Pierce clutched his stomach and stumbled backward
It took him a long while to recover.
“Асе..”
Mr. Pierce still wouldn’t give up, trying to embrace me again.
I stepped back immediately, my entire posture defensive and wary
Seeing my intense reaction, his eyes instantly filled with hurt.
“Ace, you…
“I don’t have any other motives, I just want to talk.”
“Ive been so exhausted lately.”
As he spoke, he lowered his hood in dofoot.
This was exactly the look that used to break my heart.
In the past, whenever I saw him dejected and defeated, I would want to shoulder all his burdens, willingly taking on all his
work.
But my heart was dead now. Seeing this same expression only filled me with disgust.
Not wanting to see him, I turned and entered the house.
I thought he would storm off after being rejected.
Surprisingly, he sat outside my door all night.
Throughout the night, he said many things how he regretted everything, how he missed home, how tired he was.
When he saw me leaving, he quickly scrambled up from the ground to block my path.
Mr. Pierce wouldn’t leave, even when security came.
During the divorce cooling–off period, police couldn’t intervene in marital affairs.
With no choice, I stayed inside for three straight days to avoid him.
Unexpectedly, during those three days I didn’t come out, Mr. Pierce knelt outside my door for three days straight.
“Ace, please don’t go.”
“Ace, I’m begging you to give me one more chance.”
Through the peephole, I watched his disheveled, haggard appearance, turning away without a ripple of emotion.
His current state was just like someone who had finally caught the moon they’d boon reaching for.
Got bored of looking at it, tired of playing with it
Once the novelty wore off, he remembered the good old days.
I had planned to move out after he collapsed from kneeling until his body gave out.
But before I could succeed, Mr. Pierce, who had run from the hospital, intercepted me in the garage.
He spread his arms to block my path, an air of desperation surrounding him.
His face was pale, but his eyes were full of hurt and helplessness.
“Ace, do you hate me that much?”
“Hate me enough to disregard my life and death, hate me enough to never want to see me again?”
“Ace, I regret it so much. I regret not realizing sooner that I loved you.”
“But I’m really trying to make amends now. Can’t you see my efforts? Pierce, you can’t be so heartless.”
As soon as Mr. Pierce finished spooking. I lot out a cold laugh and without hesitation, slapped him across the face.
“Ugh!“*
Mr. Pierce’s face twisted to the side, his eyes full of hurt.
lignored him, grabbed my luggage, and got straight into the car.
Leaving him for behind in my wake.
