Chapter 42
Mandy’s nails dug into Ken’s arm as she dragged him forward, her eyes brimming with a
hatred so venomous it felt almost tangible. Her voice, sharp and acidic, cut through the
tense air like a blade.
Ken,” she spat, her tone thick with malice. “This filthy Omega dared to attack me… Teach
her a lesson!”
Her words were a command, dripping with contempt. Ken turned toward me, his
expression darkening. He shoved Steven to the ground like discarded trash, not even
sparing him a glance.
“You dared to lay a hand on my mother?” His voice was a low growl, every syllable radiating menace. His blazing eyes locked onto mine with predatory intent, and I knew
escape was no longer an option.
Then his gaze shifted downward, lingering on the tattered remains of my clothing. A cruel smirk stretched across his face, sending a chill down my spine.
“If you agree to become my slave,” he sneered, stepping closer, “I might just let you live.”
Why were men such animals? I would rather kill myself than become the slave of such an
evil, perverted man. But this wasn’t the time to let my emotions control me.
Perhaps I could use this lecherous fool’s mind against him.
Disgust boiled in my veins, but I forced a sardonic smile onto my lips. “Sure,” I said, the single word dripping with venomous sarcasm.
Ken didn’t seem to notice–or care. His smirk widened, and he moved closer, reaching out to grab me. I stumbled back, deliberately playing into his delusions. My heart thundered in my chest, but I let fear mask my face, shrinking away like prey caught in a predator’s sight.
As I fell to the ground, my hands moved quickly, slipping a slingshot and a small bullet from my boot. My fingers trembled as I rolled the bullet in the dirt, allowing the Silverclaw Vine nearby to stain its surface. The vine’s venom was lethal in even the smallest doses–a

final gamble In this desperate situation.
It was my last lifeline right now and I couldn’t mess it up.
“Pathetic,” Ken growled, his tone dripping with disdain as he loomed over me.
I looked up at him, defiance gleaming in my eyes despite the overwhelming odds. “If you’re so desperate for sex, maybe you should go screw your daddy first!”
The words struck like a slap, the venom behind them unmistakable. Ken froze for a
moment, his expression twisting into something inhuman with rage.
“You little-” he began, but his words were drowned out by the chaos erupting around us.
Behind me, Kai, battered and bloodied, struggled to his feet. His breathing was labored, but
his eyes burned with determination. He reached down, picking up a jagged shard of glass
from the wreckage of our car.
“We fight to the end!” I roared, my voice carrying above the snarls and jeers. “Until help
arrives!”
Kai’s lips trembled, but he nodded firmly. “To the end,” he echoed, his voice steady despite the fear in his eyes.
With a sharp motion, I raised the slingshot, aiming for Ken’s blazing eyes. My hands were steady despite the chaos around me, and I let the venom–coated bullet fly.
It struck true.
Ken’s scream of agony pierced the air as he clutched his face, collapsing to his knees. His hulking, wolfish form began to shrink, reverting to his human shape. Blood streamed through his fingers as he hissed through gritted teeth.
“You’ll regret this,” he snarled, his voice filled with venom. “The roads to the forest are destroyed. When your Alpha gets here, it’ll be just in time to collect your corpse.”
His words chilled me to the bone. For a moment, everything seemed to freeze as the reality of our situation sank in.

Kai staggered forward, his face pale but determined. He met Ken’s gaze, his voice tribling, but fierce. “You’re wrong,” he said. “Our pack is progressive, modern, and safe. Every werewolf lives in peace, knowing they’re protected. Everyone has a role. Even rogue wolkes can find sanctuary through the Security Alliance.”
His words were passionate, almost a rallying cry, but the snarling wolves surrounding us were unimpressed.
“But what you’re doing now?” Kai continued, his voice rising above the chaos. “You’re tearing our world apart! You think you’re strong, but this is cowardice. Murdering us won’t make you powerful. It only makes you weak.”
The wolves paused, their feral eyes flickering with something that almost resembled doubt.
Almost.
Then, with renewed hunger, they lunged at us.
The world became a blur of teeth and claws. Someone grabbed my wrist, and I was thrown to the ground. Blood blurred my vision, staining everything in shades of red. My wolf instincts took over, driving me to claw and snap at anything that came near.
I didn’t want to die. Not like this.
There was so much I hadn’t done, so much I couldn’t leave behind.
Ethan’s face flashed in my mind, unbidden.
“Fuck you, Ethan,” I thought bitterly, tears streaming down my face. “You promised you wouldn’t leave me again!”
My strength began to fade as my wolf weakened, the world slipping further and further away. Another claw reached for me, and I bit blindly, tasting blood before darkness threatened to consume me.
Then, warmth.
Strong, familiar arms wrapped around me, pulling me away from the chaos. I blinked

through the haze of blood and tears, my heart recognizing him even before my eyes could
confirm it.
It was Ethan.
He came.
“You broke your promise,” I choked out, my voice raw with a mixture of anger and relief.
But you still came.”
Ethan’s expression was hard, his jaw tight with suppressed emotion. He pressed a kiss to my forehead, his own tears mingling with mine.
I’ll always come for you,” he said, his voice rough but certain. “No matter what.”
My fingers curled weakly into his shirt as I looked up at him. “Make them pay,” I whispered fiercely. “They have to pay for their senseless slaughter.”
Ethan’s eyes burned crimson, a fierce mix of determination and deadly intent. His grip on me tightened as he looked at the chaos surrounding us.
“I definitely will,” he growled, his voice thunderous.
He set me gently against the remnants of a tree and turned back to the fray. I watched as he shifted, his powerful wolf form emerging with an otherworldly glow. Ethan moved with a deadly grace, tearing through the enemy with precision and fury.
Kai staggered to my side, his face pale but determined. “Stay with me,” he said, gripping my hand tightly. “We’re not done yet.”
“I’m not going anywhere,” I replied, forcing a weak smile.
The fight wasn’t over. But once again, I felt a flicker of hope. Ethan was here, and with him
came the promise of survival. Together, we could endure this nightmare–and maybe, just maybe, we could win.
