I got straight to the point and asked, “Why have you been hiding information from me?”
Ethan hesitated before replying, “It wasn’t my intention. But I can help you–if you agree to one condition.”
Tunderstood his implication immediately and hung up without hesitation.
Half an hour later, I arrived at Nick’s manor. As soon as I sat down, my frustration exploded, “Why? Didn’t we agree yesterday that I would be part of this case? How could the task be handed over to Kate so suddenly?”
Kate was my mortal enemy–the kind of person I wanted to strangle every time we met. We clashed constantly over surgical methods and argued daily.
She was less experienced than me, and yet she had been chosen.
“As an omega, your constitution is naturally weaker,” Nick sighed. “Kate is a beta, and her father, Alpha Ryan Smith, is one of the pack’s founders.”
Zoe interjected, “Well, that explains everything.”
“Why not?” I tried to slam the table, but Nick stopped me, his tone firm. “Didn’t Ethan escort you home last night? He didn’t even bother with Jane.”
At the mention of Ethan, I recalled the awkward encounter we had. Embarrassment, frustration, and helplessness surged back, making my face flush.
Zoe smirked knowingly. “Ethan is an Alpha, and you’re an omega. I don’t believe nothing happened between you two.”
I shot him a sharp glare, and Zoe quickly dropped his grin.
“You know how much effort I’ve put into researching this virus over the years. I’m finally about to find a breakthrough, and Kate knows absolutely nothing. Do you want all

werewolves to succumb to this virus one day?”
“What exactly are you planning to do? Just say it,” Nick demanded. His commanding tone as a prestigious Beta filled the room.
“Whose idea was this?” I asked, narrowing my eyes at him.
“It was mine,” Nick admitted.
“Don’t lie,” I shot back sarcastically. “It’s obvious Kate has it out for me.”
“That’s impossible! You’re the only omega with expertise in T–virus research-”
“Enough.” I cut him off, refusing to let him placate me. “I’ve been working on this project too long. It’s either her or me–your choice.”
As I spoke, my wolf stirred dangerously within me, her glowing green eyes fixed on Nick.
Nick sighed deeply, a faint smile tugging at his lips. “Interesting. I’m actually being threatened by an omega.”
I stayed calm. “Since you value peace, go negotiate with Ryan. I’m heading to the autopsy room now. If I see someone I don’t want there, I’ll handle it my way.”
Without looking back, I left, grabbing a few bags of mistletoe powder–an incredibly useful
medicine.
Because of the case’s sensitivity, the autopsy was being conducted in secret at a location unknown to me. Nick wouldn’t reveal it, so I had to figure it out myself.
I shifted into wolf form and ran through the forest, following a narrow path. When I passed Ethan’s house, I hesitated briefly before climbing to his balcony using nearby branches.
Peering through the glass window, I saw him engrossed in some documents. My sudden appearance startled him.

Before he could speak, I said, “I’m giving you a chance to make amends. Take me to the
autopsy room.”
Ethan leaned against his desk, arms crossed, the soft evening light highlighting his sharp features and muscular frame. He looked like a Greek god brought to life.
I stared at him, briefly distracted, before realizing he wasn’t answering. Anger bubbled inside me, and I considered smashing the glass.
Suppressing my frustration, I softened my tone. “Don’t act so serious. I look ridiculous clinging to someone’s windowsill. Hurry up and come out.”
Ethan smirked through the glass, his expression teasing. “Sorry, I have an important meeting,” he said, his tone dripping with mockery.
I turned to leave, determined to find another way, when he called after me. “But I can tell you where it is–a treehouse deep in the Fire Phantom Forest.”
Reluctantly satisfied, I left, thinking maybe he wasn’t entirely heartless.
On my way to the forest, I unexpectedly ran into Kai, a doctor from another institution. We had met only a few times at conferences. Realizing we were heading in the same direction, we decided to travel together.
As soon as he saw me, Kai grinned. “Why aren’t you with Ethan? Aren’t you mates?”
Damn it. How had rumors about Ethan and me spread so fast?
“He’s absolutely not my mate,” I replied firmly, keeping a straight face.
Kai chuckled. “Sharp tongue, soft heart.”
I rolled my eyes. “You all revere him because he’s an Alpha, but I don’t.”
As we talked, we entered the depths of the forest, surrounded by guards. The lab wasn’t a simple treehouse but a massive stone structure resembling a palace. Its elaborate design

only confirmed how critical the T–virus situation had become,
I nudged Kai. “Get your pass ready. We’re going in.”
“What pass?” Kai asked, confused.
“You don’t have one?!” I nearly shouted,
You don’t either…” Kai replied, looking equally puzzled.
Before we could figure out a plan, a group of Gammas spotted us and began approaching aggressively.
