Volkov was ready to do whatever it took to make amends with the Lucyna crown. He knew he and his family didn’t stand a chance going against them, and they truly had no reason to. Just because Drescher had decided to be a screw–up didn’t mean that would follow him to the ends of the world and that too, in his insane fight against a kingdom that had no reason to quarrel with him. The only thing the father could hope for was the possibility of his alliance with them being a way out for the rest of the family. Maybe this would give his children a chance to live better lives and not be trapped under the shadow of Drescher’s sins.
Besides, it was easier to agree than to start a war with a kingdom ten times the size of Koslov, right?
“I need to know all there is too Drescher Volkov. I need to know where his obsessions began and if there is truly a reason for him to be obsessed with me or if this is just a farce for him to make a lot of lives harder. It doesn’t make sense to me. He was the one who rejected me first, and I accepted it. So how come he is convinced that this is not supposed to be? Why does he seem to be so sure that there is nothing good that will come out of me being mated to the Lycan king? Surely he is a beta, he must know how power dynamics work, right?” Queen Ralphine asked gently, her tone letting the Volkov father know that there was still a chance for them to live.
Volkov looked at his daughters, the most precious people in his life. He had never thought that there would come such a day in the lives of his children and he hated that they had come to this point. He despised the fact that his kids would have to grow up without their mother. Granted, he would try his very best and make sure they didn’t live without him either, but the thought of all that had happened made him want to find his son and screw him up on his own. Maybe he needed to remind Drescher what it meant to lose things. Perhaps that would get that bastard child a reality check, no?
“Everything?” Volkov asked, not sure if there was more that Drescher could have done to his family to make the stay in that
state.
Drescher was an unpredictable person and no matter how things got, there was no telling what was in his mind. But then the Lycan queen was giving Volkov a chance to come clean and save his family. She was letting him in and making him understand that there was hope and there would always be hope. Volkov himself knew that this was a once–in–a–lifetime chance, one that not even the Lycan king could have given him, so he was grateful for that. Besides, it was the least he could do for the girl whose life his son had turned upside down, right?
“Yes. The more we know about him, the better chances we have at understanding what is really triggering him. It just doesn’t make sense for someone to be that obsessed despite knowing there are limits to everything.” Ralphine explained and Volkov sighed shamefully.
The son he had once been proud of, the boy he had thought would be the future of their hearse had turned them into enemies of a state that couldn’t even be touched by the strongest of the realm. They were now targets and even worse, prisoners who were just learning that Drescher had still managed to make a run from his punishment. Oh, how Volkov was defeated. He couldn’t explain what was wrong with his son, but maybe if he talked to the Lycan queen who was extending a hand to him, then maybe they both could figure out what went wrong align the way. Perhaps there wouldn’t be that many people who suffered because of Drescher again, right?
“Alright your majesty,” Volkov sighed again before he began talking about his son.
“He was always a dutiful son, never had any history of getting violent or anything. If anything, we were certain that he could be the best beta of the Koslov pack. That was why I decided to step down because I trusted him. I wanted to let my son shine and take the lead in everything. He was a good person; I saw a kid with a really good future. He was the best at what he did. I always imagined he would be the greatest beta that Koslov had, better than even me. But then everything changed that night when he overheard something in the palace. It was like everything changed. I don’t know what he heard there but suddenly you became his target. It was hard to explain all of that, really, because he had never acted out like that.
