Chapter 2
Whips for the rejected!”
Whips for the rejected!”
“Whips for the rejected“”
The chants were loud, way too loud, and even then, Ralphine could still hear the sound of her breaking heart over the chaos. The wolves had gathered to see her be whipped and disciplined for ‘disrespecting the Beta
The alpha was watching, the Beta had initiated it, the wolves were enjoying the sight before them; and she, she was just petting her heart didn’t shatter and kill her from the intensity of the pain. It was a little too much even for her.
“Ralphine Belyaeva, for disrespecting the pack Beta, you are to receive a hundred bareback lashes. You know the rules, if you touch your back, we will start over and that will be on you. Do you understand?” Alpha Rykar said to Ralphine who had been tied down.
“Yes alpha, I understand,” she said and the alpha took that as an acceptance because he signaled the warriors to start the lashing. She was bent over, with her hands and legs tied together. She was hunched and looked like a huge bean, but one who was at the mercy of an entire pack.
There were four warriors, each assigned twenty–five lashes. They were to beat her at the same time, something that Ralphine was so ready for. She knew her wolf wouldn’t have been able to heal her because of how heartbroken they were but then what else could she do? She was at their mercy, as always-
“Alpha, should we lash her at the same time? Wouldn’t that be too much for her frail body?” one of the warriors asked, and that got the attention of Drescher. He hadn’t been thinking of anything other than the fact that he had engineered something that he shouldn’t have.
He was already having regrets, and yet for his reputation, one that he wasn’t even sure how long would last, he was willing to enforce a punishment this cruel to someone deserving. He looked like he was having second thoughts, but before he could say anything, he heard the lashes hitting his mate’s skin.
“She’s stronger than me. I would have been screaming my guts out by now,” one of the girls in the crowd said when the warriors were at forty lashes, and Ralphine was still hunched over not making a sound. It was almost like she was mute.
However, s she knew the consequences and she knew that any reaction from her would warrant another beating. And in silence, she took a hundred lashes, a beating so cruel that left her back with wounds and deep marks.
She had been letting out silent tears, all this time, not even bothering to whimper, and for the first time, Beta Drescher was scared.
“Is she fine?” Beta Drescher asked once the warriors were done and the crowd had dispersed.
He could see his little mate still tied up, with blood seeping from her wounds. The winds weren’t kind to her either, as the dust found their way to her wounds. Oh, but it would be a painful shower for Ralphine if she ever managed to get out of there. Thankfully, she had been lashed at a place that people never frequented.
“She’ll be fine. Come, let’s go, brother. I have a few girlfriends to introduce to you now that you’re a bachelor again,” Alpha Rykar said and Drescher looked between his best friend and the mate he had rejected.
“Sure, let’s go.” Drescher said before he walked off with her brother, leaving his mate hurdled over, covered in her own blood, and with no one to help her.
When everyone was gone, Ralphine figured it was time for her to get up, but she heard footsteps headed her way, so she didn’t get up. Instead, she waited to see what was to be done to her. Strangely enough, the person who had come, untied her and covered her in a shoal.
She didn’t get to see the face of the person, but she knew it was a girl because of how delicately she had been untied and how she had been carefully covered. It was like she was someone who hated seeing -people in pain but didn’t have the power to put
a stop to it.
“Finally, some peace.” Ralphine whispered sadly to herself. With everyone gone, Ralphine let the darkness consume her as she tried to heal herself. Perhaps it was the only way out of the pain, but would it subside by the time she woke up?
A few yours later, Kalphine was still lving where she had been left, still covered even though the night had already come. She was alone in the dark, with no one to help her up or even worry about her whereabouts.
Her parents were probably still at the mines, working extra hours so they would be able to eat some food. It was a rough life for her and her family, and it wasn’t new to anyone who knew them.
‘Shit. I need to get up, Ralphine sighed after convincing herself to stay a little longer. She didn ́t want to worry her parents by going home late, but at the same time, she didn’t want to worry them by going home battered and bruised. Some of the lashes had hit her face, leaving ugly marks.
Her hands were also in the same state, and given she was being lashed at the same time, she knew there had to be parts of her body that were extremely hurt. She couldn’t feel her body, and she wanted to know if that was a good thing or if she needed to start making plans with her sanity. She couldn’t do this
“A few more steps, Ralphine,” she said as she managed to get up, her struggle to get up so obvious thanks to her entire numb body
She had tried more than once to get up and each time the result was the same. She fell back to the ground, her swollen body hitting the ground and pressing on her wounds even more. If this was what torture looked like, then she had to be the unluckiest mate tonight.
The one who should have protected her was the one who had hurt her the most. He had left her in a state so cruel, and there wasn’t a thing that could excuse what Drescher had done to her. Sighing. Ralphine covered herself with the shoal she had received earlier and made her way back home.
“At least someone is happy.” Ralphine whispered as she heard the cheers of the Koslov wolves. They were probably celebrating the mating week again. It was something that went on for two weeks, and this was the last week.
Maybe at the end of this week, she would have healed and gone back to her duties as a survivor in the pack, right? Well, even she knew that it would take a while for her to snap back and get to where she had initially been.
She was an outcast now, and the entire pack knew it. The alpha, who could have stood up for her, as his pack member, had left her at the mercy of Drescher for a crime she hadn’t even committed.
“They found the people who attacked the Lycan kingdom.”
“Finally, someone gets to pay the price for what happened with the halcyon. We can’t have the Lycans coming after us. We wouldn’t survive that.”
“It’s just unfortunate. I feel bad for them. Imagine going against the Lycans and being so wanted by everyone. What’s even worse is that the attack failed. Whoever tried that is just insane. Or they don’t love their lives,”“
“Well, it’s the mating night, and the stakes are set; perhaps they will be burned there to serve as a lesson for the pack and the rebels who think it’s okay to get the pack into trouble.”
On her way home, she whispers about what would be happening tonight. There were whispers about the attack on the Lycant kingdom a month ago.. It had been the worst failure and an attack so pathetic against the Lycans.
Granted, the Lycans never died in the attack, but it was an unwarranted attack, and someone needed to be held accountable for that.
Ralphine had always wished that they had peace, but after that attack, she realized it would take a lot for the 1ycans and wolves to trust each other again. Or maybe this was the perfect stage for the wolves to redeem themselves, right?
“Excuse m
me, please,” Ralphine said to the wolves who made way for her, not even bothering with her, everyone was focused on the traitors who would be punished.
No one knew who they were yet and Ralphine, seeing as she was too tired and hurt to even focus on whatever was happening. in the pack, went home. She would hear about it tomorrow anyway.
Her only wish at the moment was when her parents were asleep, because then it would make it easier for her to go to bed without them asking her so many questions.
“Finally Ralphine sighed when she got to her house and found that her parents were not home. She had been praying for this from the moment she dragged herself from the lashing founds and honestly, she was relieved that they were not here.

So, she plopped onto her favorite seat, taking a breather, because she had walked a long distance and her body was still bleeding. The pain was so intense it was giving her migraines, but then it wasn’t like she could walk herself to the infirmity without being asked what had happened to her. She will deal with that tomorrow.
However, before Ralphine closed her eyes to get some rest, before she could even position herself well, she heard the sounds that would forever haunt her.
“The Belyaevas were behind the attack?” someone said and Ralphine felt all the blood drain from her face.
What the hell had just happened?
