Chapter 12
Proving that the test results were real would have been simple, but in that moment, I realized that revealing the truth about the child right away would be too easy on Jeffrey. I wanted him to spend years cherishing the child, only to discover the truth later. That would be a much harsher blow.
However, things didn’t go as planned. Within a week, a video of us arguing outside the marriage registry office appeared online. It seemed that bystanders had recorded it for entertainment and posted it.
Jeffrey quickly went viral due to his good looks, with netizens playfully adding a “green hat” and a “green scarf” on him as symbols of betrayal. Sylvia and Lucy also gained some notoriety.
The three of them frantically called me. I explained repeatedly, making it clear: “I didn’t post the video. It was recorded by onlookers and has nothing to do with me.”
But they refused to believe me. Tired of repeating myself, I blocked all three of them. Left with no other option, they began loitering around my office, causing a scene and demanding I delete the video.
I tried to ignore them, but Lucy started wailing and throwing herself on the ground, crying loudly. “This heartless woman took all my son’s assets and is now slandering him online!”
“She can’t even have children, yet she dares insult my son! Why won’t she just die already?”
“If you don’t come down, I’ll die right here in front of your company. Everyone, remember–it’ll be my ex–daughter–in–law’s fault if I die. Don’t let her off!”
Seeing the chaos escalating, I had no choice but to have security bring them up to my office.
