Chapter 7
Hearing this, I immediately called to the few people standing there, frozen in shock, “Could. someone bring in the head of legal to draft a divorce agreement for me?”
Only then did they snap out of it, putting away their curious expressions and phones as they left the office. Jeffrey seemed to realize for the first time that there were others in the room, his expression darkening even more.
Lucy, furious, clutched her chest, muttering to herself, “Good thing I was wise enough back during the property buyout to keep my money away from you, you wretch. Otherwise, I’d be ruined because of you.
She then turned to console Sylvia, “Don’t worry, dear. Even though Jeffrey’s leaving with nothing, our family has plenty of properties and funds. Jeffrey will start fresh and rise to a level a hundred times better than now. Your good days are yet to come.”
Though Sylvia kept up a calm and composed exterior, I knew her well. She was an orphan from a poor background, even relying on sponsorship to get through college. She must be feeling deeply unsettled right now.
The divorce agreement was quickly drafted, and I signed it without hesitation.
As Jeffrey was about to sign, Sylvia couldn’t hold back, attempting one last plea. “Rebecca, your family is so well off. Why insist on this? Is it just so Jeffrey will never forget you? If you really want an amicable split, wouldn’t it make sense to divide the assets evenly?”
I rolled my eyes again. “Why? It’s acceptable for you to become someone’s mistress for money, steal someone else’s husband, but it’s not okay for me to claim compensation legally? How two–faced are you?”
Exposed, Sylvia stammered in denial, “I’m not–I didn’t–L…”
I looked at Sylvia with a mocking smile. “Oh, really? I was a bit overwhelmed just now, but it’s coming back to me. In college, you…”
