We stood out for close to five minutes, and Elli still wasn’t ready to step out of the way for Alpha Rhysand who presently looked like a ticking bomb that would explode soon, he stared daggers at my brother–and Elli being Elli, stared back with the same intensity.
Alpha Rhysand’s gaze drifted to me, and my throat perched at the deep, piercing black eyes that bore into mine with an intensity that made my skin prickle.
He closed his eyes and opened them again, taking a deep breath as if to calm his nerves.
“Tell your boy to step out of the way.” He finally stared me dead in the eyes, looking more than serious.
His black button up shirt seemed to stretch across his broad shoulders, accentuating his chiseled physique. His dark trousers were tailored to perfection, showcasing his long legs.
“Her boy?? I’m her brother! And heck no, you aren’t speaking with my sister at all anymore.”
Rhysand mumbled, “Jesus.” His low husky voice sent shivers down my spine. His words were laced with a subtle growl.
“Tell your brother to step out of the way, Evelynne, so you can tell me why you pulled me into your drama. I don’t have all the time in the world and you’ve wasted more than enough.” He looked dead serious.
I could feel the weight of his gaze, despite the fact that Elli stood between us. My senses were on high alert.
“Elli,” I called out to my brother, “I’ll talk to him and be back.”
“What do you mean by be back? He can talk to you but I’m staying here.” He asserted.
“Elli… calm down,” I released a deep breath, before coming to stand in front of Elli and pressing a hand to his chest, “Calm down,” I muttered and he took a deep breath, before releasing it all, along with the tension wrecking through his nerves.
His outburst didn’t faze me, I’ve seen more on various occasions, but the last time he was this tensed drives before my dad’s death…
Years back, on one of those nights were our household was accompanied with screams, yells, tears, and fears.

“Mom is inside,” I said, in a low voice, audible for him to hear me. My eyes searched his emerald ones that stared down at me, “she’s alone.”
His brows furrowed into a deep frown and the more I stared, the more my heart felt like it was being gripped and pierced with thorns.
His expression remained blank, despite the slight trembles and pounding heart which I could feel from my hands resting on his chest.
“There’s a commotion inside, so can you please go in and help me get her out safe before she-”
“I will,” he nodded in understanding, cutting my words short to stop me from completing the sentence. His eyes flicked to the man behind me, before it returned back to me.
“But I can’t leave you here with this man, all alone.”

I could only wish to not end up in regret due to my choices.
“I want to talk to him, Elli. Alone.”
“You do realize I don’t have the time in the world to watch drama between two siblings?” Alpha Khyand’s vice verded from behind me, and there was no need to turn back to see that he looked angry at this point, I could already feel his sharp glare at the back of my skull.
If glares could kill.
“Elli, go inside please.” I pleaded.
“No, I’ll stay,” and now we are back to square one. My shoulders sagged in tiredness.
“Mom’s inside alone, and you need to go get her out,” Elli stated down at me, he might have seen the fear in my eyes when li said those words cause his shoulders tensed briefly and his lips pressed into a thin line.
“I’ll go get her,” he stepped back, waving his fingers through his hair.
“Stay five feet away from him. I’ll be right back,” And with that, Elli rushed into the hall
I turned around to meet Rhysand’s eyes staring coldly down at me. A shiver ran down my spine at the intensity, and my lips pressed into a thin line, unsure of how to break the ice around us and tell him what I want.
Standing before him with a heart hammering in my chest, I finally opened up, “I need your help.
“With?” He tilted his head to the side a little.
I took a deep breath, knowing this was a risky move, “I’ll also do something for you in return.”
He raised an eyebrow, his expression unreadable and unamused. “What could you possibly have that I want, Evelynne?” his voice trailed as if there was actually something he did want.
I barely knew much about the man before me. Even in my past life I had only met him on rare occasions and we never so much as exchanged a word with each other. I always thought of him as my husband’s friend, and that was all.
But despite Desmond always referring to Alpha Rhysand as his friend, it was bright and clear that he had other intentions.
I cleared my throat, “I have information about the rogue wolves that have been attacking your pack’s borders.” Rhysand’s eyes narrowed, interest piqued. “What do you know?” he took a step closer to me, his movements fluid and threateningly graceful like a panther stalking its prey.
I swallowed the lump on my throat, unable to find any reason as to why I felt suffocated by his presence alone.
He was meant to be my asset, I mentally reminded myself. I had more advantage in this.

I hesitated, knowing that this information was valuable. But I also knew that I needed his help, desperately. “I’m not telling you until you agree to help me,” I said finally.
A wave of momentary relief flooded me when I noticed the sudden shift in his stoic expression.
Rhysand’s eyes flashed with anger, “You think you’re in a position to negotiate with me?” his lips pulled into a mocking smile, “I’m the Alpha of the Black Fur pack. And you’ll be a rogue wolf soon, banished from your own pack because of your stupid decisions.”
My heart sank deep into my stomach, I felt a surge of anger at his words, but I kept my cool, knowing that one mistake in this could lead me to my own downfall.
I had to thread carefully.
Shrugging, I went on. “I may not have a pack,” I said with a steady voice, “but I have information that you need. And I’m willing to trade it for your help.”
Rhysand snorted,” I don’t need your information, I can take care of the rogue werewolves on my own.”
I smiled, a relaxed smile knowing it would take a few more words of convincing to have him agree to help me.
“Really? Then why have you been unable to stop them so far?” My sharp words seemed to hit the right spot, cause his glare intensified.
His face darkened with anger. “You are playing a dangerous game, Evelynne,” he stated. “Don’t think you can manipulate me. And don’t try to.”
“I’m not manipulating you, or trying to,” I said, my voice firm. “I’m offering you a deal. Take it or leave it.”
Rhysand’s eyes locked into mine, a fierce wave danced on their depths. For a moment, I thought I saw a glimmer of interest, a hint that he was considering my offer–there seemed to be something else, like an actual interest and amusement. But then his expression hardened, and he stared away from my eyes.
With hands still in his pocket, Rhysand walked over to my side and stopped.
He looked over me, his tall frame radiated an aura or power
and control.
“Not enticing enough for a deal,” he said, his voice dripping with disdain. “Not worth accepting.”
With that, he walked away, leaving me standing alone with a surge of disappointment.
