He was shouting, his words coming out sharp and accusing, but they didn’t reach
me anymore.
I stepped away and felt miles apart from him.
Seeing the coldness in my eyes, Cedric’s temper flared up. He started yelling at me, still defending Anya even now.
The shameless homewrecker stood there, looking fragile with red–rimmed eyes. “Astrid,” she pleaded, “please don’t get the wrong idea…”
I couldn’t take it anymore. I pulled out the divorce papers and slapped them down in front of Cedric, taking a deep breath. “We need to get a divorce.”
He looked at me, disbelief written all over his face. “Are you serious?”
I held his gaze, my voice steady. “I don’t

joke about stuff like this.”
“I’ve already signed. It’s over for us,” I added.
I felt a lump form in my throat as I spoke those words.
He shouted back, fury boiling over. “Why? Astrid, I’m not getting divorced! I have this big company now–are you really going to walk away? Who’s gonna want you after this? Don’t be ridiculous!”
I shot him a look filled with
disappointment. How could this man, the one I had loved for so long, be so selfish?
“I don’t love you anymore,” I said, “and that’s all the reason I need.”
With that, I turned and walked away.
Back at home, I grabbed my bags and booked the next flight to a vacation spot. I really needed to escape and clear my head.
Just as I was about to board, my phone rang. It was Cedric. “This is your fault,

Astrid! Anya’s threatening to hurt herself to prove a point! I can’t believe how heartless you are! I barely saved her in time! Bring some soup to the hospital and apologize right now!”
He was practically shouting at me, but in the background, I heard Anya’s voice. “It’s okay, Cedric, she didn’t mean it…”
I couldn’t help but smile as I hung up, tossing my SIM card into the trash.
Finally, the world was quiet.
With a fresh sense of freedom, I took my savings and set off to travel the world. I used to wish Cedric would spend more time with me, but he always had excuses- busy, sick, or just not into traveling. I waited for him to make time for me, only to
find out his Instagram was filled with photos of him and Anya traveling together.
It was never about being busy. He just didn’t want to be with me.
But now, I was free. I could.

wanted, whenever I wanted. I traveled across the breathtaking landscapes of America, soaking in every bit of beauty the country had to offer. I even took trips. abroad, experiencing vibrant cultures colliding in ways I never imagined.
I realized my life could be so much more. colorful than I’d ever thought.
After a few months of traveling, I finally flew back home and moved in with Josie. She welcomed me with open arms, insisting I join her company. “Astrid, I always wanted you on my team! You’re a vital part of it! And look at how that jerk treated you–I should’ve killed that son of a bitch!”
Josie shook her fist in frustration, and I couldn’t help but smile. I had poured my heart into supporting Cedric’s career, sacrificing my own ambitions for his.
But I was ready to shine on my own.
Once I joined Josie’s company, things fell
