Chapter 141
Cara’s POV
As the revelation of my identity as Aylon won’t be revealed until much later this evening, I dress in my less elaborate beta work clothes for the beginning of the festiviles.
In the morning, and most of the afternoon, I will be assisting with the preparations and behind the scenes work as an employee rather than a guest.
As a professional, I need to ensure that everything is perfect.
…So far so good!
Some guests have decided to arrive even before the suggested start time. Having already anticipated this as a possibility, I stayed up late last night to ensure that all of the finishing touches in the garden space were complete.
The inside space takes slightly longer to prepare this morning. Though the flower arrangements and banners are all in place, the drink tables and the food tables need to be set up and staffed. While this is being done, our early guests walked around the gardens, where there are tables and chairs for them to rest on, as well as some other leisurely activities set up for them to enjoy, like badminton and croquet.
When we finally open the doors to the inside space, right at the start time I wrote in the invitations, there’s a line ready to enter. No one who has been waiting seems upset, however. Many are even talking excitedly about how after breakfast, they want to play some of the games.
An elder’s wife, an older woman, pulls me to the side.
“This is truly a wondrous event so far, and it’s barely begun,” she says, complimenting me. “You are so skilled at organizing, Cara. However did you learn to do all this?”
I don’t want to tell her that my knowledge came with experience. I could only plan this party so successfully because I personally prepared Alaric’s wedding in the past.
“Thank you!” I just smile at her.
“Truly. I hope you continue to enjoy yourself.”
“I know I will,” she says and wanders off, satisfied even with my lack of answer.
One of the other servants of the party, spotting me, comes up to me.
“Sorry, Cara, I’m sorry to interrupt your work, but Alpha Alaric is waiting outside with flowers for you…”
Alaric?
I widen my eyes.
But just as this servant approach me, I saw the pale face of one of the caterers.
“Cara! I’m sorry! Something is going wrong in the kitchen! We need you!…‘
Work is more important than anything. Our pack had made great efforts in this night, I can’t let it fail.
I sighed,and say to the servant, “Maybe he has to keep waiting… I’m far too busy to entertain anyone right now.”
The servant nods and turns away, perhaps to deliver my message.

Morning shifted to afternoon. As the day passed by, I quickly realize I need to get home and change.

The dress Mia picked out, coral in color with a tight bodice and flowing skirt, makes me feel like a princess more than even my title does.
I look at myself in the mirror and mutter in disbelief, “…Is this really me?”
My red hair is carefully styled, and a small crown rests on my head. The dress is a strapless gown that fits perfectly, revealing just enough of my shoulders and collarbones.
My high heels are also extremely shiny, completely different from the shoes I usually wear for work–this really makes me feel like a princess.
This is the first time I’m dressed so beautifully.
In the past, I attended balls and galas as someone meant to stand at the outskirts, unnoticed – Just appearing as a planner or an assistant to some alpha.
But now, with this event, I’m to stand directly in the spotlight. I don’t know how to feel about it – I’m nervous, certainly –
…But, this is the important night. No matter what else happens tonight, I’ll at least look good.

“Ding- Dong!”
The doorbell to my place rings.
I go to answer it, finding Eamon just outside the door.
Seeing me, he pauses for a moment, his eyes a little wide.
“Do I have something on my face?” I ask him, touching my face uncertainly.
…Perhaps I should check in the mirror again?
Smilingly lightly, Eamon shakes his head. “No, Cara. You look beautiful, like the princess you are! Everyone tonight is going to be entirely enraptured by your beauty.”
I laugh a little. “Come on, be serious?”
“I am serious!

Eamon replies. “I hope you are ready to be the center of everyone’s attention.”
The words make me nervous, but Eamon offers me his arm
“I’ll be with you every step of the way.”

Alaric’s POV
Despite my early arrival, I still haven’t seen Cara.
I feel slightly foolish, having carried these flowers like a hopeful, lovestruck fool for most of the day, from the early morning hours until now, nearly time for the evening celebration to begin.
The embarrassment is easy to ignore, however, when the ultimate prize is winning Cara’s affections. I would stand outside of her door holding flowers every day if I thought it would make her anything more than simply

annoyed with me.
More than embarrassment, worry starts to fill me. Surely Cra has been told of my arrival and of my intent to speak with her. If so, it’s likely she is purposefully avoiding me.
Or maybe something happened.
Fear swells hot and fast within me, remembering my dream, and that terrible day six years in the past. I lost so much that day.
If something like that has happened again… If I lost Cara this
Spotting the same servant I spoke to earlier, I approach him once more.
He seems nervous, jumping when I call for him.
“I told Cara you were waiting, but she’s been so busy!” the servant says.
“She’s doing so much for the event that she hasn’t had time to slow down all day! She’ll be at the main event. tonight though. I’m sure you will be able to speak with her then?”
Cara is not in danger–that makes me breathe a sigh of relief. But I can’t help but wonder, why is Cara so busy….? Isn’t she already a princess? What else could possibly keep her busy?
At that moment, an announcement comes over the speaker system. The host’s voice is loud enough for everyone to hear.
Oh! May I have your attention, please?”
“If you could head into the main ballroom, the evening celebration – is about to begin!!!”
