“I’m…”
Before Stella could finish, someone took her phone away and hung up.
It was Nathaniel. He held the phone so hard that his fingertips turned white, showing he was angry.
“Stella, remember your place,” he snarled, “I married you just to appease my mother. Stay out of my affairs.”
His voice was cold. Every word sent Stella a chill.
“No. I…” I thought that was my phone. She tried to explain.
But he interrupted her. “Here are the car keys. The car’s downstairs. You go home, I’m off to work.”
With a thud, he dropped the keys and a sandwich on the table.
Stella shuddered and came back to her senses. Then, she started to look for her bag and found it on the stool. She reached for it, explaining, “Mr. Beaumont, you misunderstood. I didn’t know it was your phone. Our mobile phones look the same. I thought it was my client. If you don’t believe me, check this out.”
She finally took her phone out, but Nathaniel had left.

She looked at her phone and sighed, complaining inwardly, “Our phones really look the same.
He shouldn’t have put his phone everywhere!
And he should have put the contact’s name on his phone!
But who is that woman?
Why did she sound angry?”

Stella didn’t bother thinking about it carefully because she smelled the sandwich. She was starving and in no mood to care whether Nathaniel was angry. She needed to fill her stomach first.
Nathaniel took a taxi back to the company. Carlos quickly greeted him.
“Mr. Beaumont, here’s your badge.” Carlos, the programmer, passed it over.
“Alright. Tell the team to keep my identity a secret and send a few to my place.”
“The villa?”
“No, my temporary apartment. Make it uninhabitable,” Nathaniel instructed.
“May I ask why, Mr. Beaumont?” Carlos asked, taken aback,

“Understood. I’m on it.”
Nathaniel entered the office, leaned against the window, and lightened the cigarette.
Surrounded by cigarette smoke, Nathaniel thought about yesterday. Stella knew Jennifer all along, so Stella must’ve married him for his money, just like the others.
He couldn’t believe he fell for it.
Nathaniel wouldn’t live with Stella. She was greedy in his eyes, and he hoped she would be wise and leave.
Suddenly, his phone vibrated, interrupting his thoughts.

[I wanted to ask you some technical questions about my project just now, but a woman answered your phone. May I ask who is she? Did she just randomly pick up your phone?]
The woman inquired tentatively. Every word seemed to have been considered, looking intimate and careful.
[What are the problems with your project?] Nathaniel didn’t answer the questions about Stella.
The woman replied: [It’s okay. I’ve solved it.]
Nathaniel replied: [Okay.]

Then, he put down the phone and ended the conversation.
The app showed the woman was typing, but finally, she sent nothing.

Stella ate the sandwich and waited for another half an hour before the fluids were finally finished.
She went downstairs, pressing the cotton ball. It was cool on an early summer night. She shrank her neck and ran to the parking lot, using the car key to find the car.
Guided by the navigation, she arrived at Nathaniel’s apartment and was slightly surprised to see the fancy building.
“Do programmers make so much money?” She thought.
Although it wasn’t in a prime area in Cutas, it had efficient transportation, complete living facilities, and was quiet.
Moreover, Nathaniel’s apartment was in a fancier building and was large.
“It must have cost Nathaniel a lot,” Stella thought.
While Stella was thinking about its price, the security guard knocked on the window and asked. She explained it. Then, the security guard let her in.
Stella drove to the underground parking lot and followed the

signs to find the parking space in Building Eight.
She parked the car, entered the elevator with her luggage, swiped her card, and pressed the 12th floor.
As the elevator went up, Stella’s heart was pounding.
She still felt her marriage and living with a man was unreal.
Stella grew increasingly nervous as she considered it and couldn’t help but hold the suitcases tightly.
With a ding, the elevator door opened.
Stella found Nathaniel’s apartment anxiously.
She carefully took out her key and opened the door, wondering what a high–end apartment looked like.
However, the moment Stella opened the door, she was dumbfounded.
It was totally unlivable!
“Nathaniel looks like a neat freak. Why is his apartment like a pigsty?
No. It was worse than a pigsty!

The trash cans were awfully full. The couch was covered with sundries and clothes, leaving one nowhere to sit down.

She looked around in shock, unable to connect such a dirty place with the cold and serious Nathaniel.
Stella didn’t think she could live there.
She was considering finding a reason to go home. After all, she knew Nathaniel didn’t like her.
But thinking about Jennifer, who had spent 500 thousand dollars to find a wife for Nathaniel, Stella hesitated. She couldn’t explain it if Jennifer knew they had separated.
Stella sighed.
Meanwhile, the elevator door opened. Nathaniel walked to his apartment door, glancing at his watch.
Expecting her to bolt at the sight of his disaster of a home, courtesy of Carlos, he was sure she’d reveal herself as the gold digger he pegged her for.
All he needed was a woman to pacify Jennifer, a simple transaction.
Once Jennifer tired of the novelty, he’d pay Stella off for a clean
