Chapter 8 She Had Gone Mad
The doctor arrived quickly, gave Samantha some medication, and administered an injection, stopping her problem with passing gas uncontrollably.
After the doctor left, Helen stayed with Samantha to discuss the aftermath. “Don’t worry,” Helen reassured her softly. “I’ve taken care of everything. Today’s incident will not get out.”
Samantha said angrily, “Mom, you’ve given them so many benefits that they naturally won’t dare speak out. But I can’t just swallow my pride after what happened!”
Samantha had planned to meet with several young women from small families, hoping to show off her newly acquired limited edition handbag. In the past, they had always tried to flatter her, but today, she had humiliated herself in front of them. She couldn’t stand that.
Helen, afraid Samantha might cause more trouble, quickly responded, “There will be plenty of opportunities to deal with them later. The most important thing right now is getting Sloane married into the Hawthorne family, and your 18th birthday party in a few days.” She spoke delicately, “I know what you’re thinking, and I’ve already arranged everything.”
Upon hearing these two matters, Samantha’s eyes brightened. She grabbed Helen’s hand, leaned on her shoulder, and acted coyly, “Mom, I’m sorry for worrying you again.”
Helen smiled and hugged her shoulder. “You’re my precious daughter, whom I’ve raised myself. Who else would I worry about if not you?”
Samantha smiled slightly, a hint of smugness in her eyes. “Mom, I knew you were the best to me.”
Sloane, even though you are the real daughter of the Rivers family, what does that matter? Your family considers me their treasure.
After Helen left, Samantha ordered a maid to bring Elena to her. She wanted to immediately see the video of Sloane’s embarrassing moment. After feeling humiliated all day, she finally had something to cheer her up.
But the maid didn’t move for a long time.
Samantha’s anger flared. She raised her hand and slapped the maid hard.
Smack!
The sound was sharp and loud, and the maid’s face instantly turned red and swollen.
“Are you deaf? I told you to bring Elena here!”
The maid, covering her face, began to sob. Thinking about Elena’s current condition, her body trembled. “Ms. Samantha, Elena has gone mad!”
“What? Mad?” Samantha clearly didn’t believe her. “How could she go mad for no reason? I think it’s just an excuse for you useless people to cover up your mistakes.”
With that, she began to hit the maid again, kicking and punching her. The maid curled up on the ground, protecting her head, too scared to fight back. “It’s true, Elena really has gone mad. We all saw it. Mr. Quinn already took her away.”
Exhausted from hitting her, Samantha finally stopped, snorting coldly. “Then what about Sloane? How is Sloane?”
“Ms. Rivers?” The maid replied in confusion, “Ms. Rivers is perfectly fine in her room.”
Samantha knew at once that the maid had failed to carry out her instructions about Elena. She had humiliated herself so badly today, and yet Sloane was fine. Samantha was about to lose her mind in frustration.
“You useless fools! You can’t even handle a simple task! What good are you?” Samantha grew angrier and kicked the maid in the chest.
The room was filled with the maid’s scream before everything went silent.
Elena had gone mad, and nearly all the maids saw her acting crazed, trying to cut off her own skin with a knife.
The next day, her parents came to resign for her, saying she was ill and couldn’t continue working for the Rivers family.
Of course, everyone knew Elena had gone mad. They also heard that another maid, who had worked with Samantha, had taken leave as well.
Gossip quickly spread among the maids, with rumors that Samantha had driven Elena insane, and that the other maid had been beaten by her too. Fear spread, and everyone became cautious.
Sloane heard these rumors while she was reading in her room.
Chloe had already been destroyed by them, and time had passed long enough that even if there was evidence, they would have destroyed it by now. Taking legal action for revenge was no longer an option.
But Sloane had her own way of getting revenge.
Elena was just an accomplice, and her fate could be considered the interest for the past five years. As for Samantha, the true culprit, Sloane would not let her off so easily.
