“Cough!” Lucas coughed a few times, his face looking slightly pale.

Andrew hurriedly turned back from the window and walked quickly to the bedside, his face full of worry. “Mr. Hawthorne, how are you feeling? Is anything bothering you?”
Lucas gently shook his head. “I’m fine. I just woke up, and my body feels a little weak.”
Andrew, hearing this, was so relieved that he almost cried. “Mr. Hawthorne, it’s so good that you’re awake! You’ve been unconscious for so long, and the doctors were helpless. Madam Tessa was so worried.” As he spoke, he gently wiped the tears from his eyes with his sleeve.
Andrew had been brought back to the Hawthorne family by Lucas when he was six, and they had practically grown up together. He had always considered Lucas his most important family member.
“By the way, I need to tell Madam Tessa you’re awake. She’ll be so happy!” Andrew said, almost overwhelmed with joy.
“Wait a moment, listen to me first…” Lucas briefly outlined his plans. After he finished speaking, he appeared a bit tired.
After all, he had just woken up and was still extremely weak.
“Alright, I’ll handle it right away,” Andrew nodded repeatedly. “Mr. Hawthorne, you should rest. I’ll send more people outside.” Especially near the windows; he hadn’t forgotten that Sloane had climbed through the window.
Sloane returned to the lobby on the first floor and bumped into Adrian, who had come to find her.
Adrian grabbed Sloane’s arm, his face dark and his forehead veins pulsing. “Sloane, do you think my warning was just for show? I can send you to asylum once, I can do it again.”
“Heh!” Sloane snorted, breaking free from his grip and mocking him. “Mr. Adrian, how could I not believe what you say?” Helen quickly approached, lowering her voice. “Sloane, if you want to embarrass yourself, go back to the countryside. This isn’t a place for you to cause trouble.”
She turned to Adrian and said, “I’ll handle this. Your dad is waiting to introduce you to a few executives, don’t waste any more
time.”
“Fine, Adrian shot Sloane a warning glance and walked off in another direction.
Helen pulled Sloane into a secluded corner. Her smile instantly vanished, replaced by a look of anger. She raised her hand as if to slap her. “You b*tch, you did this on purpose, didn’t you? Do you have any idea how important this marriage is to the Rivers family?”
Sloane reacted quickly, grabbing Helen’s wrist and coldly staring at her. “Your family always wants to hit people. That’s a sickness. It needs treatment.”
Helen was momentarily taken aback by Sloane’s gaze. She hadn’t expected Sloane, who had always been obedient before, to become so tough after returning from the asylum.
After a moment, Helen forcefully yanked her hand away from Sloane’s grip. “You’d better be careful. Who do you think would want to marry a lunatic? Just be glad that you can help the Hawthorne family to ward off the bad luck.”
“Is marrying into the Hawthorne family paving the way for your precious daughter, Sammy?” Sloane sneered, the curve of her smile bitter, though her eyes revealed only endless sorrow.
This person is my own mother.
“You!” Helen was about to scold her but stopped when she noticed the strange look in Sloane’s eyes. Following her gaze, she saw two blurry figures in the distance, standing close together.
Samantha was her daughter, whom she had raised with her own hands. She knew her figure well, and the other man had to be Mason
A proud expression instantly spread across Helen’s face, as all her plans were falling into place.

She slightly lifted her chin, her eyes gleaming with satisfaction. Even the way she looked at Sloane now had a touch of triumph. “Sammy is my daughter. Her talent and beauty are unmatched. When she marries into the Hawthorne family and becomes the lady of the family, she’ll surely treat you, the widow, well.”
