Sloane walked to the bedside, her gaze landing on Lucas‘ face. His features looked as though they had been carved from fine marble–his brows sharp and noble, nose straight and high, lips full and well–shaped, the corners of his mouth slightly raised. Just based on appearance, he was undoubtedly a sleeping prince.
She couldn’t help but stare, slightly entranced. With looks like that, it was no wonder Stonebridge’s heiresses flocked to him.
A moment later, she snapped out of it and reached out, placing her fingers on Lucas‘ pulse, checking it carefully.
Slowly, her brows furrowed. His pulse was weak and chaotic, fading in and out. The condition was indeed strange. It didn’t resemble any ordinary illness.
Sloane thought to herself. Tonight, she had come to find a chance to stop the engagement between the Hawthorne family and the Rivers family.
She had returned this time to take revenge on the Rivers family. Of course, she didn’t want to see them grow stronger.
Sloane began to consider the possibility of working with Lucas. His illness was unusual, and the Hawthorne family’s situation was complicated. Getting involved might bring a lot of trouble for herself.
Her fingertips touched between Lucas‘ brows. She hesitated, ultimately unable to bear letting such a beautiful man die just like that.
She raised her hand and bit her own finger, drawing blood. Then she leaned down, her red lips pressing against his, pried open his teeth, and passed the blood into his mouth.
Just as Sloane was about to rise, Lucas suddenly opened his eyes.
Those deep eyes burst with a sharp, lethal aura–like a fe dangerous and overpowering presence.

Sloane didn’t have time to dodge. Their eyes met directly, and she immediately felt her hairs stand on end.
Her heart sounded an alarm, and she instinctively pulled away.
Pop!
In the tense silence of the room, that sound was magnified infinitely.
Both Sloane and Lucas froze. For a moment, the air felt frozen in place.
Right then, a faint sound came from outside the door.
Sloane reacted quickly, rolling to the side to lie down next to Lucas. She lifted the blanket and covered herself.
Fortunately, she had just come out of the asylum and was thin. Otherwise, she really wouldn’t have fit.
At the same time, Lucas closed his eyes again, going along with her act.
The door was gently pushed open, and a few footsteps echoed in.
Someone walked over and stopped by the bed. Sloane’s heart tightened,
“Andrew, how is Mr. Hawthorne today?” The voice belonged to an older woman.
“Same as always. No one knows when he’ll wake up,” a younger man answered, his tone thick with worry.
“Sigh… Madam Tessa is nearly going mad with anxiety. If Mr. Hawthorne doesn’t wake up soon, what are we going to do?” the woman said with a sigh.
Andrew Hawthorne comforted her with a few words, then escorted her out.
Once they left, Sloane threw off the blanket and sat up, breathing heavily.
“Who are you?” Lucas asked, still lying down, studying the girl in front of him–more accurately, the teenage girl.

There was a trace of caution and scrutiny in his eyes. Despite his weakened body, he maintained a natural calm and composure, as if no matter the situation, he could still control it.

Sloane’s instincts told her this man was dangerous. But seeing him unable to move after being unconscious for so long, she grew bolder.
She lifted his chin with her fingers, gently rubbing it twice, and said in a teasing tone, “Mr. Hawthorne, you’re so fierce. But I’m your fiancée, you know.”
As she spoke, she blew softly against his face, her eyes full of mischief and boldness.
Suddenly, the door flew open–Andrew had come back.
The moment he entered, he lunged at Sloane, his movements sharp and swift.
Sloane reacted even faster. The instant he pounced, she shifted her hand from Lucas‘ chin to his throat, gripping it tightly. “One more step, and I’ll kill him!”
