Chapter 14
I knew immediately it had to be Lorik. I instructed the clerk to tell him I was busy and to leave.
Once the room was cleared of any remaining questions or concerns from the student’s parents, I made my way downstairs. There, Lorik was waiting in the lobby, his face clouded with anger. He ́hadn’t left; instead, he was conversing with Maurice, who wore a self–satisfied smirk.
Maurice, noticing my arrival, leaned closer and whispered, “If you need help getting rid of your ex, just let me know.”
Horik’s eyes flashed with fury. “This is a matter between me and my Luna. You have no right to ‘intervene, or I might challenge you myself.”
I shook my head. “Maurice, I need to handle this myself.”
Maurice’s expression softened into a smile. “It’s my duty as your lover to support you,” he said,
causing Lorik’s anger to flare even more.
Lorik led me to his car, lighting a cigarette as we walked. The smell of smoke was almost
unbearable. I frowned. “Please don’t smoke in the car. I’ve tolerated it before because of your
condition, but I don’t like it.”
He paused, surprised, then extinguished the cigarette with a sigh. The people who kidnapped
you–rogues with old grudges against the Silver Moon Pack–they’ve been mostly dealt with.
However, some are still on the run. You should be careful.”
I nodded. “I’m aware. The next werewolf council is in half a month. We’ll finalize everything then.”
Lorik’s face turned pensive. After a long silence, he spoke, his voice soft but resolute.“May be we should not break our ties of being MATES*
This unexpected declaration sent a jolt of shock through me. My heart raced, caught between hope and confusion. What could he be planning? Why would he make such a declaration now?
Lorik’s words, I froze for a while and then gathered some strength to ask
“Why.. Why do you regret it?
“We are MATE,” Lorik stated firmly. “Even if you can’t be a proper Luna, our relationship won’t change.”

His words stung. “What are you saying?” I demanded, trying to keep my voice steady.
The position of Luna is for Lorcia. You don’t have the wolf to sit in that position. But you’re still my lover, and I will give you a lot of money to enjoy a privileged life in the human world.”
I couldn’t stand it anymore. “You selfish, cold–blooded bastard!” I shouted, my voice shaking with anger. “You only care about the pack’s interests, never about me!” I slammed the car door and
stormed off.
I expected the condescending Alpha to leave in anger at my insults. However, after a few steps, I heard the car creeping behind me. He rolled down the window and called my name.
I turned around, glaring at him. “What else do you want?”
“I’ve never seen you like this before,” he said, his tone almost curious. “I didn’t know you played the piano or liked flowers.”
I smiled bitterly, remembering what Lorcia had said about him being romantic. “We don’t even
know each other, do we?”
Lorik was silent for a moment. “Three years ago, you needed assistance for your pack, and I needed a Luna. You didn’t have a wolf, and I was disabled in the war. We had to become a pair. Although we are each other’s mate, there’s no love. You just play the role of Luna, don’t you?”
Hearing him say that, I felt my heart ache. Tears welled up in my eyes. All the care I’d given him in these three years, everything I did out of love, was seen as duty.
A breeze blew, and I raised my hand to straighten my hair and wipe the tears from the corners of my eyes. When I lowered my hand, I noticed Lorik’s hard look. “Where’s the wedding ring on your hand?” he asked grimly.
“I sold it,” I replied, my tone sad.
Lorik’s eyes widened in anger. “How short of money are you, to the point of selling your wedding
ring?”
“You were the one who betrayed this marriage first,” I shot back. “There’s nothing left of it. Besides, I was kicked out of the pack overnight by you and Lorcia. If I hadn’t sold my wedding ring, I would have had to go wandering.”
Lorik seemed to have never considered that I, as a Luna, wouldn’t have my own private vault.
He froze, then said seriously,

Get in the car, tell me which shop you sold the ring at and we will go and buy it back now”
felt mocked in my heart and turned him down, stating,
“Even if we buy the ring back what’s the point, we can’t get our marriage back.”
Lorik grimaced and just when I suspected that he would jump out of the car and force me to get in his car to buy the ring back,
At that moment, his phone rang.
