Chapter 4
I froze, and before I could say anything, Blake yanked me into his arms.[]
Holding me tight, he used his good leg to flip us. pinning me down.[]
I freaked, covering my belly with one hand, pushing him with the other:[]
“Blake, you pervert! You’re such a fucking cheater!“]
I meant he had a girlfriend but was still trying to hook up with his ex.]
But he just propped himself up on one arm above me and laughed like I was crazy.
“Me? A cheater? There’s no more faithful guy on the planet than me.”

“Then get OFF!“]
I held my arm against his chest like a shield.[]
But he wasn’t budging.[]
Instead, he stared at me with those puppy dog eyes that could melt steel, looking me up and down.[]
Even worse, he touched my face, then slid his hand down to squeeze my waist.[]
I was terrified, then heard him frown and go “hmm” above me.[]

“Have I been sending too much food? You feel thicker.“]
My heart raced as I covered my three–month bump, blinking nervously.[]
“Thick? You’re just jealous I’m living my best life.“]
I looked at Blake’s face that had gotten way thinner, his already sharp jaw even more defined.[]
I pushed hard and sat up.[]
“Okay, now I know your junk still works, so I’m not worried.“[]
“Thought maybe I’d broken you these past two years.“[]
Blake leaned back on his hands, giving me this soft smile that made my skin crawl.[]
Right as I’m getting up, he wrapped his arms around me from behind.[]
“What’s your PROBLEM??“|]
Did NOT want to get busted in some cheating scandal![]
I was about to elbow his ribs.[]
Blake gently blocked my hit, arms around my waist, chin on my shoulder.[]
His voice was deep and heavy: “Raven, how much cash you got left? How long’s it gonna last?”
Soon as I heard that, I saw red.]
So he WAS trying to get more money!]
“Blake! You think five mil is some crazy amount?!“]
I was furious.]]
“I know it’s not,” Blake sounded all innocent, “that’s why I’m asking how long you got.“[]
I rolled my eyes and lied on purpose: “Maybe two months!“]]

I gotta raise this kid solo on that money for eighteen years.[]
Buy them a house, a car, pay for college.[]
Can’t let my baby end up like me–total trailer trash.[]
Plus I might lose more cash being soft hearted about baby daddy.[]
“So.” Blake’s arms tightened around my waist, “before the money runs out… don’t go find someone else, okay?“[]
His serious, almost begging tone caught me off guard.[]
“Are you nuts?”
1 turned to glare at him.[]
Dude was way too controlling.

Blake touched my face, smiling sadly: “These next two months, don’t hold back on yourself. Eat good, buy whatever. Promise me?“[]
Was he for real? Like I’d ever deprive myself.[]
Maybe his pitiful expression got to me, so I sighed and patted his hand jokingly:[]
“Relax. Being spoiled rotten is literally my specialty.“[]
Blake raised his eyebrows and shook his head with a laugh.[]
I jumped up, grabbed my purse, and got the hell out.]]
Blake stayed in that hospital for like two whole weeks.[]
I seriously didn’t get it. That tiny bandage on his ankle wasn’t even as wide as a tampon.
How the fuck was he acting like he had a broken leg?[]
But my stupid ass kept worrying and sneaking back to check on him.
Every single time, Madison was there playing nurse.[]
I’d lean against the doorframe watching her spoon–feed him homemade chicken soup.[]
Blake would look up at her after every bite, grinning like an idiot.[]
He’d grab her hand and go: “Maddie, I’m sorry you gotta deal with all this crap.“[]
“Once I get my shit together, I’ll totally make it up to you, I promise.“[]
From their little heart–to–heart, I found out Madison had actually hit up her parents for money to cover their living expenses.
Madison’s family wasn’t rich either–just regular middle–class folks with normal jobs.]
Madison sighed and squeezed his hand back.[]
“Don’t say that. I’m not here for your money.“]]
Classic princess behavior.[]
Thinking about it, I actually kinda understood why Madison might be stepping out.[]
Blake was a total deadbeat–drowning in debt, broke as hell, making empty promises, and apparently trash in bed too.
No wonder Madison needed some excitement on the side.[]
I shook my head and left the hospital.]
Decided I was done meddling in their drama.]
They could play their weird games without me.[]
Besides, Blake only had Madison now.[]

If he found out she was cheating, he might totally lose it and do something stupid.[]
Next few weeks, I went back to living my best pregnant life.[]
Piper had been crazy busy with her new sales job, always texting me about the psycho clients she dealt with.[]
Seeing me stuck at home all the time, she’d drag me out on weekends and kept pushing me to make new friends.]]
I licked my ice cream cone, staring at the sky without answering.[]
Lately I’d been feeling super lazy, plus I had this empty feeling in my chest.[]
“Oh, BTW, my company’s having this huge client event next week. Five–star hotel, fancy catering, and we can all bring plus–ones. Wanna come?“]
Piper was all persuasive, saying everyone got goodie bags.
Probably had gold jewelry or expensive skincare shit.[]
Life’s too short not to have fun.[]

I finished my cone and nodded. “Hell yeah.“]
