I forcefully pulled Alexander up and pointed to the overpass not far away, saying, “Jump from there, and I’ll forgive you.”
That overpass wasn’t very high for most people, but Alexander had severe acrophobia. Ever since his father jumped from the 18th floor and died in front of him, he had developed a severe fear of any high places.
What normal people could jump from, he absolutely couldn’t. I wanted Alexander to back down when faced with this
challenge.
However, I ultimately underestimated how desperate Alexander had become. He ran toward the overpass without hesitation
Although his face was as pale as a sheet, his eyes showed reckless determination. He closed his eyes and jumped from there.
He fell into the water below the overpass and didn’t climb ashore for a long time.
Standing in front of me, soaking wet, he gave me a pleasing smile. “Isabella, you said if I jumped from there, you’d forgive me!
I did it, so will you forgive me now?”
I closed my eyes, feeling somewhat irritated. I suddenly found Alexander’s persistent pestering very annoying.
“I lied to you. I won’t forgive you, not ever!”
Alexander looked at me with shock in his eyes, as if he hadn’t understood what I was saying. A mocking look appeared on my face.
“What, not used to being lied to? But lying is what you’re best at, isn’t it? After all, you’ve told so many lies for Charlotte and
Pearl”
Alexander lowered his head. The water from his body had formed a small puddle beneath him, making him look even more disheveled. Seeing his pitiful appearance, I felt disgusted and spoke even more harshly.
“I won’t go back with you, and I won’t let you stay by my side. We’re already divorced. Stop saying you didn’t sign the divorce papers. You know our problem was never about pieces of papers.
“Just like when we got our marriage certificate, you still refused to publicly acknowledge that you were married. You wouldn’t even let Kimmy call you Dad!
“Alexander, don’t you think it’s ridiculous? Your own biological daughter could only call you Uncle Alex! What, are you her
stepfather or something?
“Every time I think about this, I hate you all over again. Do you think just because you came here today to say sorry, we should be grateful and go back with you? I’m telling you, it’s impossible. No matter what happens in the future, Kimmy and I no longer have anything to do with you.
“The biggest mistake I ever made was not stopping Kimmy when she gave you those 100 forgiveness coupons. That gave you so many opportunities to hurt us without consequence!
“And don’t apologize to us anymore, because your apologies are worthless. Kimmy and I won’t accept them, and we certainly won’t forgive you!”
My words left Alexander speechless, his eyes full of regret and guilt. After a long moment, he finally spoke in a hoarse voice, his eyes reddened “Bella, what will it take for you to forgive me?”
I pointed forcefully toward the outside. “Get out and never appear in front of me again. Even breathing the same air as you
makes me sick.”
After saying this, I didn’t look at Alexander again and turned around to stride away. I found Mark and Kimmy at the park just
as they were walking back with their art supplies.
Seeing Kimmy’s and Mark’s matching warm smiles, my previously tense mood relaxed.
