Chapter 5
Alexander’s tightly gripped phone crashed to the floor. He looked up, his usually calm and wise eyes filled with confusion. What did you say?”
Lucas carefully repeated the terrible news. Alexander stared at him for a long time, then suddenly pulled his lips into a
sarcastic smile.
”
His voice was certain as he asked, “Lucas, how much money did Isabella and Kimmy give you to help them put on this show?”
Lucas was stunned by Alexander’s question and didn’t react for a moment. “What?”
Alexander held up the divorce papers and the empty box beside them with a cold laugh. “Divorce papers, used–up forgiveness coupons, and now even a plane crash storyline.
“I mean, how could a hundred forgiveness coupons be used up so easily? And you think I’ve never seen a real plane crash victim notification? You just grabbed some random paper to fool me?
“Does Isabella think everyone else is as stupid as she is? Just because she’s jealous, she’s making such a big scene and even
took Kimmy away from home. Isabella is getting more and more immature.”
Lucas opened his mouth to explain that what he held really was a crash notification sent by the airline to the company, and that he really wasn’t putting on an act with Isabella. But before he could get the words out, Alexander’s phone suddenly rang, interrupting him.
After hearing something on the other end, Alexander grabbed his coat and prepared to rush out. Before leaving, he glanced at
Lucas and said, “Tell Isabella that when she’s done throwing her tantrum, she should bring Kimmy home immediately.”
With that, he turned and quickly left. Lucas looked at the victim list notification from the airline in his hand and suddenly felt
sorry for Isabella and Kimberly.
When Alexander hurriedly arrived at the Clarke residence, the room didn’t look at all like Pearl was seriously ill, as Charlotte
had said on the phone. As soon as he entered, he saw that Charlotte had prepared a table full of food and was sitting beside it
waiting for him.
On the table was a beautifully wrapped cake. Only then did he suddenly remember that today was his birthday. Watching Charlotte and Pearl holding the cake and singing him happy birthday, images of Isabella and Kimberly flashed through his
mind
In previous years on his birthday, Isabella and Kimberly were always happier than if it were their own birthdays. They would prepare gifts for him early, and the mother and daughter would bake him a homemade cake together.
Thinking of past birthday scenes, Alexander couldn’t help but show a faint smile. However, these happy scenes never appeared again after Charlotte returned to the country. Because every year on this day, Charlotte would call him away for
various reasons.
Their family of three hadn’t celebrated a birthday together in a long time. Looking at his phone, which still showed no activity, Alexander’s expression darkened.
He rarely began to reflect on whether he had gone too far. After all, Isabella was his wife, and Kimberly was his daughter.
Thinking of that day at the parent–teacher conference when Kimberly called him Uncle Alex with tears in her eyes, Alexander’s body stiffened Since Charlotte returned to the country, he had indeed neglected Isabella and Kimberly.
He had only considered that Charlotte was someone he once liked, and now she wasn’t doing well. And Pearl had grown up without a father by her side. He should take better care of the mother and daughter, but he had forgotten that he was also Isabella’s husband and Kimberly’s father.
Thinking of this, Alexander’s heart filled with guilt. He had originally planned to end their secret marriage when Kimberly turned seven and officially acknowledge Isabella and Kimberly publicly.
