Chapter 10
Xavier’s condition made him crave blood, and his aggression was off the charts. Leaving Isabella alone with him could have dire consequences.
Darryl stepped forward, his face full of concern. “Dr. Lovett, you don’t understand–my son’s illness is very complex…”
George also disagreed with the idea. “Exactly, if he lashes out and hurts you, you wouldn’t stand a chance.”
No matter how skilled Isabella was in medicine, she was still just a woman in their eyes.
Isabella’s gaze remained locked on Xavier, and she shook her head, her voice calm. It’s fine.”
George tried to argue further, but Isabella raised her hand to stop him. She looked him in the eyes and said, “Trust me.”
George hesitated for a moment. He knew Isabella better than anyone–once she made up her mind, there was no changing it Still, he wasn’t entirely convinced and warned her, “Alright, but be careful. I’ll be just outside the door. If anything happens, call for me immediately.”
To George, nothing was more important than Isabella’s safety. Isabella appreciated his concern, and with a nod, she assured him she’d be fine.
Darryl, clearly uneasy, turned to Xavier and warned. “You better control yourself. Don’t you dare hurt her!”
Worry weighed heavily on him as he and George reluctantly left the room, casting anxious glances back at Isabella.
Once the door closed, Isabella focused on Xavier, who immediately barked out a cold command. “You get out too!”
His fists clenched, veins bulging on his forehead, it was obvious he was fighting something inside him.
With fewer people around, the temptation of blood became stronger, its sweet scent lingering in the air and calling to him. The sight of Isabella’s neck made him want to sink his teeth into it
Yet Isabella remained unfazed. She casually took a seat on the nearby sofa, her calm gaze fixed on him. Her voice was steady as she said, “I’m the only one who can cure you. Are you sure you want me to leave?”
“You crave blood, your body fights against this insatiable thirst. You’re restless, easily agitated, and prone to violence. You can barely eat now. In fact, you’ve already lost the ability to consume normal food,” she said.
Xavier’s eyes widened in surprise. Everything she said was true! His condition had deteriorated to the point where he could only rely on IV nutrition to keep his body functioning.
But in the next instant, Xavier’s expression shifted into a sneer. “You could’ve easily learned all of this from my father. Why should I trust you?”
Isabella rested her elbow on the armrest of the sofa, propping her head with one hand, and tilted her head slightly to look at Xavier with a raised eyebrow. “Then let me tell you a symptom that no one else knows about.”
Xavier sneered, clearly unimpressed. ‘What could a woman like her possibly know! A symptom nobody else knows? Impossible.”
But Isabella’s next words froze the expression on his face.
“You don’t have normal reactions down there in the mornings anymore, do you?” Her gaze settled on a specific part of Xavier’s body, making the meaning unmistakable. Xavier’s face immediately darkened.
“How can this woman possibly know about such an embarrassing issue? It’s something no doctor knows. I thought I’m the only one who knows it, Xavier thought.
His brow furrowed, and he stared at her, momentarily at a loss for words.
habella smirked, her tone calm as she continued, “Right now, you only feel these symptoms. But gradually, you’ll notice your body becoming numb, even stiff.”
She spoke matter–of–factly, describing what would happen next. Xavier felt a chill deep inside. Just today, he had moments of numbness. He thought it was because of his posture, but now that he recalled, he had sat the same way countless times without

Eventually, he’d end up like a lifeless husk, facing death.
The fact that she could describe so much so accurately indicated she had some knowledge of his condition.
Xavier took a deep breath, the frustration in his heart growing heavier. After a pause, he looked at Isabella and asked in a deep voice, “Can you really cure me?”
Isabella shook her head, answering honestly, “I’m not sure. I can only try”
Xavier let out a bitter laugh. Then what’s the point of you being here!”
She had listed all his symptoms with eerie precision, only to tell him she wasn’t certain. It felt like she was here to humiliate
him.
Raising an eyebrow, Isabella replied, “The IVs you’re on right now aren’t stopping your condition from progressing. At the very least, I can help you suppress it. Whether or not I can fully cure you depends on how your body responds.”
Seeing Xavier’s gaze soften a little, she added, Tll treat you with acupuncture for a few days, and you’ll stop experiencing these symptoms. But I won’t lie to you and say you’re completely cured.”
Xavier was momentarily stunned. His gaze on Isabella became more complex. His tightly pressed lips parted slightly, as if he wanted to say something but held back.
Isabella didn’t wait for him to respond and spoke again. “With acupuncture–if you agree, I can start right now.”
Xavier’s expression remained grim as he struggled to suppress the chaotic turmoil within him. At this point, what do I have to lose? If death is inevitable, why not give it a try?”
After a long pause, he finally uttered a single word, “Fine.”
Isabella didn’t waste any time. She stepped forward and removed the IV from Xavier’s hand. Then, she pulled out a small green pouch from her bag.
Unfolding it, it revealed a thick, rectangular cloth with rows of neatly arranged silver needles. Sunlight streamed in through the window, casting a glint off the sharp needles, making them gleam with a cold, metallic light.
Taking one of the three–inch–long needles in her hand, Isabella’s lips curled slightly in amusement when she noticed Xavier’s hand, resting on the blanket, instinctively twitching away.
“Afraid of needles?” she teased.
Xavier’s face darkened further. He turned his gaze slightly to the side, his voice sharp and defiant. “Who’s afraid? Just get on with it!”
Isabella’s eyes gleamed with a bit of humor. “Take off your shirt,” she instructed.
Without a word, Xavier quickly stripped off his hospital gown. His body was tense, muscles visibly taut, likely due to his effort to control the wild impulses boiling inside him.
Isabella’s fingers brushed lightly across his back. “Relax. Don’t fight it. Breathe deeply and close your eyes.”
Xavier’s body stiffened even more at the soft touch of her fingers. He had never experienced this kind of close contact with a woman before, and the sensation sent an inexplicable shiver through him.
However, he was determined not to let Isabella notice anything, so he quickly closed his eyes and forced himself to calm down, gradually easing the tension in his body.
The moment the first needle pierced his skin, Xavier let out a low grunt of pain. The sharp discomfort radiated from the surface of his skin deep into his bones, causing him to squeeze his eyes shut even tighter.
Isabella raised her eyebrows, slightly impressed. She hadn’t expected him to endure the pain so stoically. Most men, even the toughest ones, would cry out in agony after being pricked by so many needles. But all he did was grunt.
Without further hesitation, she continued inserting needles, her movements growing faster and more precise with each one. The low, strained sounds of Xavier’s groans filled the room as the treatment went on.
An hour later, Isabella finally finished. She stretched her stiff neck and stood up, giving her own body a quick stretch.
