Chapter 9
It wasn’t long before the lead investigator of the case entered the waiting room.
“Can I see the Rainy Night Butcher?”
Evan Carter asked, his fists clenched, fury blazing in his eyes.
The investigator hesitated for a moment before nodding
“Normally, that’s not allowed, but we can make an exception this time”
led Evan and Lila to the interrogation room.
They could only view the suspect through the iron door.
Evan slammed into the door like a raging bull, shouting, “You monster! I’ll kill you! Give me back my wife and daughter
“Let me in! A demon like you doesn’t deserve to live! Why are you giving him water? Why?”
It took two officers to restrain him.
I was stunned, watching this scene unfold.
Through the glass, the suspect in the room was wearing a suit and looked like a professional businessman,
He didn’t resemble the Rainy Night Butcher I’d seen at all.
“They have the wrong person!”
I yelled at the investigator, but no one could hear me,
Lila, on the other hand, had a faint, satisfied smile on her face.
It was then I realized why she was so calm earlier–she knew all along they had the wrong man.
After Evan calmed I down, Lila took him home.
Once there, she slipped into the bathroom to make a phone call.
“Don’t worry. The police won’t suspect you now,” she said in a low voice.
“But tonight, take care of Ava’s mother. We can’t risk her causing trouble later.”
Hearing this, I was shocked.
Lila was working with the killer?
I rushed toward the door, desperate to warn my mother, but an invisible force yanked me back every time.
No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t leave Evan’s vicinify. I was trapped.
“Evan! Save my mom, please!”
I screamed, tears streaming down my face.
But no one could hear me.
When Lila emerged from the bathroom, she asked sweetly, “Evan, what would you like to eat? I’ll make something for you.”
“I’m not hungry,” he replied, lighting another cigarette and pouring himself a drink.
Lila frowned, her irritation visible as she clenched her fists.

Tran, we need to move forward. The killer has been caught. Let’s go to a party tonight and relax.”
At her suggestion. Evan’s gare darkened.
Are you out of your mind?” he snapped.
“Ava and Chloe just died! Even if you didnt like them, you could at least wait before going to a party.”
Lila’s face fell. She lowered her head and muttered, “I’m sorry, Evan. I just wanted to make you happy.”
Forget it. I shouldn’t have taken it out on you.” Evan sighed, brushing her off.
I ignored their exchange, too worried about my mom’s safety.
nding by the window, I gazed out into the dark night, praying she would be okay.
Ding–dong!
The doorbell rang, cutting through the tension.
Evan opened the door to find the lead investigator and two officers.
Did you find Ava and Chloe’s bodies?” he asked urgently.
“We did,” the investigator replied with a nod. Then, glancing past him, he asked, “Is Lila here?”
Yes.” Evan replied, puzzled.
“Good. We need to ask her a few questions,” the investigator said, stepping inside.
Evan sat down, watching curiously as the investigator pulled out a photo.
“Miss Lila, do you know this man?” he asked.
“No… I don’t,” Lila stammered, her expression betraying a flicker of panic.
The investigator raised an eyebrow and slid another photo across the table.
“What about this one?”
The image showed the man who had kidnapped Chloe and me–the Rainy Night Butcher–wearing janitorial clothes and orange gloves.
“No idea who that is,” Lila said with a dismissive laugh. “He looks awful.”
The investigator leaned back and said, “Our findings indicate that the person responsible for Ava and Chloe’s deaths isn’t the Rainy Night Butcher but a copycat killer.”
“What?” Evan exclaimed, his shock evident. Lila’s face turned pale, and her hands fidgeted nervously.
“The two photos I showed you are of the same man. We’ve also found evidence linking him closely to you, Miss Lila,” the investigator said pointedly.
“That’s impossible!” Lila protested, forci?
“You must have the wrong person.”
a laugh.
“Lila is so kind. There’s no way she’d be involved,” Evan interjected.
The investigator sighed and made a phone call.
“Bring him in.”
Minutes later, officers escorted the copycat killer into the room.
“We caught him attempting to harm Ava’s mother tonight. Thankfully, we stopped him in time,” the investigator explained.
Relief washed over me.

Ay
My mom as cafe.
The police had been watching all along, suspecting something wasn’t right.
Lala, Bowever, was visibly shaken.
she tumbled off her chair as the killer turned to her and shouted, “Lila, you told me to do it! You can’t leave me now!”
We planned to exam Evan together! You’re the mastermind, not me!”
