Chapter 4
Chapter 4
The friends began to turn against me.
“Nelson trusts you, so he let you take care of Auntie.”
“How could you let her have such an accident?”
“Cara, you should know how important Auntie is to Nelson. How could you care for her like this?”
Tiffany approached me, grabbing my hair. “You did this on purpose, didn’t you? You see how well Nelson and I get along, so you’re retaliating against
me, did you deliberately not give Auntie her medication?”
“Or did you purposely not take care of her?”
“Cara Ruskin, you’re so cruel! If you want revenge, come at me; why harm Auntie?”
Coming back to reality, Nelson’s face turned ashen as he approached me, his calm demeanor now menacing.
“Can’t you see how good my mom

own daughter. How could you do this to hers
Nelson yelled, “You bitch, explain how my mom died!”
“If you can’t explain, I’ll make you pay for it today!”
His eyes were bloodshot, and I had no doubt he would kill me.
I took out my phone and played the surveillance video I had retrieved from the security guard.
All the friends leaned in, eager to see.
In the video, the ambulance blared its siren.
I was seen kneeling in front of Tiffany’s car, repeatedly bowing my head.
“Isn’t that Tiffany’s car?”
“How could she block the ambulance?”
“Who would have thought Tiffany was like this?”
The video showed me banging on the window, clearly capturing Tiffany inside with her eyes closed, swaying to the music.
“Wow, Cara’s hands are bleeding; she must have hit hard.”
“Tiffany was enjoying music while this was happening; how heartless!”
“How could she do this?”
As I listened to my friends‘ accusations against her, Tiffany retorted, “There was no one in the ambulance; she was just acting!”
“Don’t believe her!”
But the friends replied, “If there was no one in the ambulance, why would it sound the siren?”
“Exactly, the siren only goes off in emergencies.”
By now, Nelson had a rough idea of who was in the ambulance but still didn’t want to believe it.
1 looked at Tiffany and said, “On the day Mom had a heart attack, if you hadict blocked the ambulance, she wouldn’t have died.”

The door said that if we had arrived just five minutes earlier, she could have been saved.”
I was you who killed her
Hearing my words, Tiffany’s face turned pale as she slumped to the ground.
The friends erupted in chaos.
The person in the ambulance was Auntier

way, no way
Touse slandering me! How could Auntie be in the ambulance?”
Tiffany looked at Nelson in panic, “Don’t believe her! She’s just talking nonsense!”
“It was her; she killed Auntie! She purposely left through the side door, why didn’t she go out the main entrance?”
“If she had taken the main entrance, she wouldn’t have encountered me blocking the way.”
Nelson, believe me! I didn’t do it on purpose; she must have known I was going home, so she did this!”
“She wanted Auntie to die
Nelson’s face darkened as he approached Tiffany, gritting his teeth, “I planned this route; the side door was the best way to the hospital.”
Mom had faced a similar situation before, and it was nearly too late then.
Since that incident, Nelson had researched the best route to the hospital.
Exiting through the side door not only shortened the distance but also avoided congested streets.
Hearing Nelson’s words, Tiffany panicked even more, “But I can’t reverse; it’s not my fault!”
“Nelson, you love me! You can’t blame me for this!”
antie is dead now, you can divorce Cara and marry me. We can have a good life together.”
“Can’t you? I’ll love you well!”
I scoffed inwardly.
Tiffany overestimated her position; she naïvely thought she could compare herself to my mother.
Mom had endured so much hardship after being kicked out while pregnant with Nelson.
When Nelson was old enough to remember, they had even slept under a bridge.
Yet, despite everything, Mom had never let Nelson go hungry.
Nelson worked hard so that Mom could live a good life.
Fler place in his heart was irreplaceable.
Even compared to a single strand of her hair, Tiffany was a joke.
Nelach squatted down, gripping Tiffany’s throat, his face twisted with rage, “What are you? How dare you compare yourself to my mom?”
Tiffany panicked, “I’m your beloved woman! I want to marry you!”
Nelson slapped Tiffany across the face, “You think you can still dream of marrying me?”

“Tiffany, do you know what you’ve done?”
Nelson shouted, “You killed my mom!”
Tiffany trembled in fear, quickly explaining, “Nelson, it’s not my fault! You know I can’t reverse!”
At this point, Nelson didn’t care whether she could reverse or not; he yelled, “If you can’t reverse, why did you even drive? Why didn’t you just crash yourself?”
Tiffany stared at Nelson, wide–eyed, never expecting his attitude to change so drastically.
Just then, a friend stepped forward and said to Tiffany, “Tiffany, didn’t you participate in off–road racing abroad? How could you not know how to reverse?”
any panicked at the comment, hastily denying, “You’re talking nonsense! When did I participate in off–road racing? I didn’t!”
