Chapter 2
When we were dating, my husband and I used to joke around, casually checking each ||
other’s phones.
But as the years went by, and our work schedules got buster, I never thought to
question him. I trusted him completely. []
This was the first time I’d looked at his phone since we got married.
I still remembered the password, so I unlocked it and scrolled through. His WeChat
was filled with the usual work groups and casual chats.
Aside from that, there were just a few standard apps for entertainment.
Nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
Maybe I really was just overthinking things?
“Hey, babe, I’m done with my shower. We’re out of body wash, can you grab some
tomorrow?”
Suddenly, he walked out, towel–drying his hair.
I quickly put the phone down, but he noticed.]

He smiled. “We’ve been married for years–don’t you trust
another look?”
He sat down on the couch next to me. “What’s up? Why are you suddenly interested
in my phone?” ]]
“Nothing serious. My mom was unsure about something. I tried to help her, but she
still wanted to get your opinion. I just wanted to see what she texted you.”
I decided to keep my suspicions to myself for now.
He raised an eyebrow slightly,
“You’re the one who runs this household; you don’t need my opinion for everything.”
“You know I trust you more than anyone.”
“Now
that we’ve saved up $50,000, we’re close to putting a down payment on a
place in the city. Things are really looking up for us.”
Hearing him say that, a wave of gullt washed over me.
Was I just being paranoid? []

“Well, honey, there’s actually something I wanted to ask you.”
I was about to come clean when I suddenly noticed the watch on his wrist, the one
he hadn’t taken off yet.]
A chill ran down my spine. []
It was identical to the one I saw in the video.
The blogger had mentioned that this kind of luxury watch was worth millions.
If it was just for work, why hadn’t he returned it after the event?
“What’s wrong? Is it something to do with Mom? Is she sick again?”
He noticed my hesitation and immediately looked concerned.
I took a deep breath and shook my head.
“It’s nothing. I heard there’s a new apartment complex on the west side of the city
offering low down payments. Maybe we should check it out?”
But he shrugged,
“There’s no rush. We can save a bit more, and by then, the loan interest rates might
be lower.”
That night, I couldn’t sleep like I usually did.
He thought I was out cold, but I watched him through the reflection in the mirror as
he picked up his phone and sat up in bed.
His expression was serious as he entered the password.[]
But it wasn’t the password I knew before.
