Chapter 6
Christina sneered, “You’re mistaken if you think I’ll buy your words so easily. If you truly want me to believe you, stay out of our lives for good. Leave Olandale.”
Leave Olandale? Exactly how insecure was Christina?
Why would she leave? Who said she should do as Christina said?
A complacent smile spread across Christina’s face. “Ken and I are going to get married and have children soon. Tell me, Silvana–won’t that break your heart?”
Get married and have children…
The words triggered a wave of old, painful memories. Silvana pursed her lips and said, “I can believe the marriage part. But… are you certain you can have children with him?”
“What are you implying?”
“Just a friendly suggestion,” Silvana smiled. “Perhaps you should ask Kendrick to get a thorough physical exam. I have serious doubts about whether he can … perform.”
Had Christina not pushed her so relentlessly, Silvana would never have
resorted to such a crude tactic.
Christina was obviously stunned.
Before Christina could gather herself to respond, Silvana added in a tone of mock kindness, “Why do you think I was so eager to finalize the divorce? Living with an impotent man was pure torture.”

With that, she left without even shooting Christina a glance.

“What? You told Christina Kendrick’s impotent? Fuck! You’re such a badass! Wait… Is he?”
Silvana wasn’t as calm as she appeared. Back in the apartment, as she recounted the confrontation with Christina to Dianna, a deep sense of irritation and sickness settled within her.
She didn’t make any comment.
Dianna continued, “Oh, I get it. So, you didn’t want kids because he’s impotent?”
Silvana couldn’t help but pinch the bridge of her nose. “Anna, don’t you think you’re missing the point?”
She regretted saying that to Christina now. What if Kendrick found out what she’d said? But it was too late now. There was nothing she could do.
Dianna still found it hard to believe. “He’s … impotent? That can’t be…”
“I don’t know” Silvana replied tiredly. “Maybe Christina is different for him. Maybe they’ll have children soon enough…”
Suddenly, a wave of nausea swept over her, and she rushed to the bathroom at once.
“What’s going on? Are you OK, Silvy?” Dianna’s voice was laced with
concern.
Silvana retched for a while. When she finally straightened up, she was met with the pale reflection staring back from the mirror. She pressed her lips into a thin line, and it took her quite a while to finally feel better.

“I’m fine,” she said weakly. “I skipped dinner. Must be because I’m too hungry.”
Dianna remained silent for a long moment before asking cautiously, “Silvy, when was your last period?”
Silvana froze.

Her cycles had always been irregular, and she’d never kept close track. Kendrick had been adamant about not having children, so they’d always used protection. Concerned about the side effects of birth control pills and knowing her constitution was delicate, he had never allowed her to take them. He had always used a condom.
Dianna suggested, “Silvy, perhaps you should go to the hospital for a check–up tomorrow.”
The divorce had been finalized less than a month ago. As she thought back, Silvana realized that if she were truly pregnant, it likely began that night two months ago–the night Kendrick returned to the apartment.
She had just come home from shopping with Dianna, wearing a simple yet form–fitting dress that hugged her slender waist and accentuated her curves. With her long, straight hair and rosy lips, she looked effortlessly captivating. That very night, the dress was torn by Kendrick, who was usually so controlled. Unlike his usual self, he took her with a raw urgency, not even making it back to the bedroom.
In the heat of it all, she couldn’t even be sure if he had used protection.
But she didn’t have time to go to the hospital. Early the next morning, a notice arrived from Julianne, asking for compensation. It was complete with comparisons between Silvana’s design and pieces from a major luxury brand. Julianne had even hired a lawyer and was threatening legal
action.

Silvana couldn’t shake the feeling that Christina was behind it all.
Sherrie Nolan, her assistant, was on the verge of panic. “Silvana, what are we going to do? I honestly don’t see any resemblance between your set and that major brand’s design. At most, the color palette is a little similar –but that doesn’t mean anything, right? How can someone plagiarize a
color?”
Knowing she was being deliberately targeted. Silvana pinched the bridge of her nose. “We’ll handle this by the book.”
“But…” Sherrie hesitated. “I heard Mr. Maxwell is an influential figure. What if we offend Mrs. Maxwell? There could be serious
consequences…” As a recent graduate, it was only natural that she was terrified.
Silvana comforted her, “Don’t be afraid. This is aimed at me, not you or anyone else. You won’t be dragged into this. If you’re feeling uneasy, why not take a few days off? Come back once this situation calms down.”
“Silvana, are you sure you can handle this alone?”
“Yes. Don’t worry about me. Besides, you’ve been working overtime so much lately–you must be exhausted. Take this chance to rest.”
Sherrie was just an assistant and could only do so much. More importantly, Christina was clearly behind this, and Silvana had no intention of involving anyone else unnecessarily. After sending Sherrie home early, Silvana reached out to a lawyer, Jeromy Cline, and arranged to meet with him.
Jeromy was a friend of Felicia, and he was also the studio’s legal consultant.
