Chapter 21
Silvana looked away, not wanting to meet his gaze. “Sorry for troubling you.”
Kendrick’s expression turned unreadable. He stared at her silently for a long moment. The silence made her grow more and more uneasy. Her lips felt dry. She was about to speak when he leaned in slightly, and his voice lowered to almost a whisper, “Why didn’t you tell me?”
Silvana played dumb. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Kendrick’s expression darkened, his eyes sharp with coldness. “You’re pregnant.”
Silvana’s heart skipped a beat, her throat going dry. She subconsciously tightened her grip on the bedsheet. “It’s none of your business.”
“It’s my baby,” he said firmly.
“No, it’s not.
”
“You’re a bad liar. You’ve never been with anyone else but me.
Silvana turned away, trying to swing her legs over the edge of the bed to leave. But before her feet could touch the floor, Kendrick grabbed her wrist. He pulled her closer, his voice low. “Aren’t you going to tell me the truth?”
“Yes, it’s yours.” Silvana met his gaze, a faint, bitter smile tugging at her lips. She stopped denying it. “Even if I were a fool, I’d know not to tell you.”
Kendrick just said, “You can always tell me anything.”

Silvana reacted quickly. Her tone turned sharp. “I don’t believe you. Do I have to spell it out for you?
“I still need to remind you that we’re divorced. I don’t need you to take responsibility this time. You don’t have to feel any pressure. I know you’re getting married soon. I won’t get in your way.”
Her words were spoken with clear articulation, and she wore a calm expression.
“Silvana.”
Kendrick pushed her gently back onto the bed, his fingers tightening slightly on her shoulder. His face grew darker, his mood visibly souring.
Silvana frowned, the pressure on her shoulder growing painful.
Kendrick noticed it and loosened his grip. “Rest first. We’ll talk when you’re feeling better.”
“There’s no need to talk!”
“Do you really hate me so much?” Kendrick asked, a faint, hollow smile playing on his lips. Back then, she was so captivated by his good looks that she rushed into marrying him.
“No,” she denied, but found herself absurd. She let out a laugh at both herself and Kendrick.
“You don’t sound like you mean it.”
He remembered how she used to be: never so mean, always gentle, with an easy temper. And she used to like acting coquettishly with him.
Silvana fell silent, biting her lower lip.
She knew Kendrick well enough. When faced with something like this,

he’d either take responsibility to the end or offer her compensation to terminate the pregnancy, just like when they divorced. She knew he’d likely choose the latter.
But she couldn’t bear to have an abortion. And she had no intention of holding Kendrick accountable, either. With her own ability, she could raise the child alone. She was ready to bear whatever consequences came-
with that.
So the choice was hers, not his.
After a moment, Silvana spoke up, “Are you worried I’ll ruin your relationship with Ms. Walter, Mr. Villarreal? Don’t be. I won’t. This child is mine alone. I’ll make sure no one else finds out. If it’ll put your mind at ease, we can sign an agreement. I promise I won’t…”
A sudden ring cut her off. It was Kendrick’s phone. He glanced at the screen but didn’t answer, ending the call with a tap before turning back to Silvana. “We’ll finish this talk when you’re better.”
Her face was still too pale now.
Silvana didn’t argue. She didn’t want to see him anyway, and she really
did need to rest.
Not long after Kendrick left, Dianna burst into the ward.
“Silvy! Are you okay?”
Dianna’s voice was tight with worry as she fussed over her, checking her forehead and hands to make sure she was unharmed.
Silvana said softly, “I’m fine. How did you know I was here?”
“I called your phone, but your colleague answered and told me you’d fainted. I rushed over right away, but the traffic was terrible,” Dianna explained.

Dianna’s heart ached when she saw Silvana’s bloodless lips. This was the second time Silvana had fainted. “You have to take better care of yourself!”
Silvana curled her lips into a helpless smile. “Kendrick knows I’m pregnant.”
“What?” Dianna’s eyes flew wide. “What did he say?”
“He said we’d talk when I became better.
“That’s a disaster! If he knows, Christina will definitely find out soon enough. And with her personality? She’ll never let this go. She’ll come after you for sure.”
“Don’t worry about me. I’ll be careful,” Silvana said softly.
Dianna fumed on her behalf. “It’s all that damn Kendrick! He can’t even leave you alone after the divorce. You’re the one who ends up suffering every time.”
Silvana gently patted her hand to calm her. “It’s okay. Let’s see what he’s going to say. I knew he’d found out eventually. I just didn’t expect it to be so soon. It’s because of my own carelessness. I thought I could keep it hidden a little longer.”
Dianna comforted her. “Don’t blame yourself. This isn’t your fault. But let’s be real. You can’t hide it forever. Once your belly grows, everyone will see it, and you still work here. Christina will find out sooner or later. We need to figure out how to protect you from her first.”
Suddenly, Dianna’s eyes lit up. She leaned close to Silvana, lowering her voice to a whisper as she shared an idea.
Silvana frowned and shook her head. “I’ve never even met his parents. I have no idea what his family’s attitude would be.”
