Chapter 20
Silvana nodded. She understood that.
Back then, Garrett had come straight to Olandale to deal with Olivia’s mess. Olivia’s case was by no means easy to resolve, especially with Christina deliberately throwing obstacles in her path, who was determined not to let it end smoothly.
When Garrett contacted Silvana again, she’d guessed what he wanted, but she still had no intention of helping. She told him, “I can’t do anything. She’s your daughter. Just figure it out yourself.”
“Silvana! What did you just say? Do you even have any respect for me?”
Garrett didn’t get to finish. Silvana hung up, though she didn’t block his number. She knew Garrett would just switch to another one to call her again.
This was a complete falling–out with Garrett.
Silvana suddenly felt exhausted. She pinched the bridge of her nose and let out a heavy sigh.

What Silvana hadn’t expected was that Garrett would show up directly at her studio. Things happened so suddenly that Sherrie was almost caught in the crossfire. It was Sherrie who’d heard the commotion and come out, only to see Garrett storming in. He’d marched right up to Silvana, yelling, “Who did you offend? Do you know you’ve got your sister stuck in this damn nightmare?”
“Silvana…” Sherrie, terrified, hid behind Silvana.
Silvana stayed calm. “Let’s talk in my office.”

Once inside, Silvana asked Sherrie to get them some water. Sherrie hurried off. But before she walked out, she even glanced at them nervously. Garrett turned on Silvana, his voice sharp. “You need to explain yourself! If I hadn’t come, I’d never have known what you’ve done! You almost ruined Olivia!”
Silvana said, “I don’t deny I had a part in what happened to Olivia, but the main blame is on her. If she hadn’t stolen…”
She didn’t get to finish, because Garrett slapped her hard. Just then, Sherrie appeared at the door, holding two cups of coffee. She’d seen everything and was so scared that her hands shook. The coffee cups slipped from her grasp, shattering on the floor. Hot liquid and broken glass splattered everywhere. Sherrie froze, too terrified to even move to clean it up.
“Silvana…” Sherrie whispered.
Silvana’s lips tightened. Her cheek still felt numb from the slap Garrett had just landed. She took a moment to recover before speaking, “I haven’t finished my words.”
Garrett shouted, “I’m telling you, Silvana! If anything happens to Olivia, I’ll never forgive you!”
Silvana let out a bitter laugh. “Were you ever planning to forgive me?”
“I don’t care about your excuses. This is all your fault! If you don’t find a way to fix this, I’ll make your life a living hell!”
Silvana took a deep breath. “Then go ahead. Olivia’s not getting out either way, so it doesn’t matter to me. I don’t care.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Exactly what I said. You just slapped me, so Olivia has to stay in there a

few more days. Even if I had a way to help, I wouldn’t do.”

Silvana sank into her chair, crossing her arms. Her gaze on Garrett was unnervingly calm.
Garrett was a businessman. He quickly reined in his anger, forcing a composed tone. “I was… impulsive just now. I’m just frantic about your sister. She’s so young, never been through anything like this. She’s been locked up for days. Who knows what she’s going through? If you have a way to help her, please do it. Think of it as me begging you.”
In Olandale, Garrett had few connections to rely on. Worse, the people making trouble for Olivia were only doing it because of Silvana. He wanted to make Silvana pay for it, but getting Olivia out came first.
Silvana’s lips curled into a disdainful sneer. She said nothing, refusing to
agree.
“Have you even asked Olivia why she stole?” she finally spoke up.
“She didn’t steal! How could she do something like that!” Garrett became agitated again!
Silvana cut him off sharply. “Enough. Go home.”
Finally free of Garrett, Silvana rubbed her temples. Her head ached fiercely.
“Silvana, are you okay?” Sherrie asked, hurrying over.
Silvana shook her head. “I’m fine. Did he scare you?”
“No, I’m all right,” Sherrie said, though her voice still trembled. “Silvana… is that really your dad? Why does he treat you like an enemy…?”
He might as well have been an enemy.

“I’m sorry, Silvana. I didn’t mean to overstep. I was talking nonsense…” Sherrie stammered.
“I’m not angry. Don’t worry. Besides, you’re right. That’s exactly how it
is.”
Silvana and Garrett had never had a single peaceful conversation. She’d once loved him, but he’d never returned that feeling.
Sherrie was about to say more, but Silvana’s face looked so pale. She said, “Sherrie, help me call a car to the hospital.”
Her belly ached sharply. She needed to get to the hospital.
Sherrie didn’t dare delay, fumbling for her phone to book a ride.
Not long after, Silvana blacked out. She had no memory of how she’d gotten to the hospital. When she finally woke up, she was lying in a ward. And saw someone she never expected to see: Kendrick.
Kendrick was sitting by her bed, watching her. Silvana wondered if she had seen things. His eyes hold a complicated mix of emotions, even a hint.
of concern.
The ward was empty. Silvana tried to sit up, but there was an IV needle in the back of her hand. Kendrick moved quickly, grabbing her shoulder gently. “Don’t move.”
The sudden physical contact made Silvana frown. “Why are you here?”
she asked.
“The hospital called me. They said you fainted,” he replied.
