Chapter 19
“Just tell me the truth. While I was away, was Ken really happy with her? Did I come back and ruin their happiness? Does Ken hate me so much?”
Irving swallowed hard. “Ms. Walter, I don’t think it’s like that…”
“Then tell me honestly. Were they happy?”
Irving had no choice but to answer, “I don’t know for sure. But Mr. Villarreal never mentioned his feelings to Ms. Mendoza, and he never took Ms. Mendoza home.”
Christina already knew that. Even when she was abroad, she’d kept a close eye on Kendrick’s life back home. But she’d only found out about their marriage last year. And back then, she’d almost killed herself, until her friend talked her down. It had taken all her courage to come back to
Kendrick’s side.
Now, even though Kendrick was divorced, Silvana’s existence felt like a thorn in Christina’s heart, and she could never pull out unless Silvana stayed far away from her and Kendrick.
“I knew he’d never take a woman like her home. How could his family ever accept someone like that as their family?” Christina murmured to herself. She was the only one the Villarreal family approved of. That alone meant Silvana was no match for her. But to be safe, she couldn’t let Silvana keep appearing in Kendrick’s life. She had to find a way to make Silvana leave Olandale and stay far away.
Irving said nothing. He had no right to interfere, even though he’d always thought Silvana was rather pitiful.
“Irving, I hope you remember who your future boss will be,” Christina.

added, her eyes fixed on him.
“I understand, Ms. Walter.”

“From now on, if I ask about Ken’s work schedule, you must tell me everything. No hiding it from me. And you can never tell him about this.”
This put Irving in a tight spot. He knew full well who his real boss was and who he was supposed to answer to. He forced an awkward smile. “I know what to do, Ms. Walter. Don’t worry.”
On the day of her hospital check–up, Silvana went with Dianna. She still felt a little–flustered, but Dianna comforted her the whole way. Luckily, the results were good. The doctor listed many things to note during her pregnancy, and Dianna listened more carefully than Silvana herself, even taking notes to avoid forgetting anything.
After leaving the hospital, Dianna noticed how much weight Silvana had lost, so she insisted on taking her to eat, saying Silvana needed to
replenish her strength.
When they came to the restaurant, they accidentally ran into one of Kendrick’s friends.
The man walked over and called out to Silvana. Silvana didn’t recognize him at first, but after a moment’s thought, she realized it was Kendrick’s friend, Damien Conley, whom she’d met a few times before and even had
dinner with.
“Mrs. Villarreal, out shopping with a friend?”
Damien spoke warmly, calling her Mrs. Villarreal. He seemed unaware that she and Kendrick had divorced.
Silvana said flatly, “Kendrick and I are divorced.”
Damien looked taken aback. “Divorced?”

Silvana nodded seriously. “Yes.”
Damien stammered, “Sorry, I had no idea…”
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have called her Mrs. Villarreal.
“It’s fine,” Silvana said, not minding it.
Damien seemed to guess at the reason and asked cautiously, “If you don’t mind me asking, did you two split because of Christina?”
It was an open secret, after all.
Before Silvana could answer, Dianna, who’d just come back from the restroom, overheard and cut in, “Of course, it was because of Christina. Who else can be the reason?”
Damien opened his mouth as if to say more, but Dianna interrupted him sharply. “You people are everywhere, aren’t you? Can’t you just leave her
alone?”
Silvana pulled Dianna back, then turned to Damien. “I’m sorry, we have to
go now.

With that, she walked away, her attitude cold and distant.
Silvana had always been a quiet, obedient type. Her natural black hair was shiny and soft, her skin fair, her eyes clear and unclouded. She had a fresh, almost schoolgirl–like aura. Even without styling her hair or getting manicures, she always looked pretty.
Damien had been shocked when he first met Silvana. When Kendrick introduced her as his wife, he’d even wondered if he was seeing things. How could Kendrick, of all people, like someone like her?
Everyone in their circle was born into wealth, and Kendrick was the center of that group. Few could compare to him. In all the years, Damien

had never seen Kendrick acknowledge a girlfriend, let alone marry someone quietly. Yet the first time Kendrick brought a around, she’d been his wife.

Damien thought, “It was no wonder Christina ran off crying that time.
“She’s had a crush on Kendrick since we were kids. But she suddenly found out the person she’d loved for years was secretly married to someone else. Anyone would be devastated by that.”

As for Silvana, she’d actually left a good impression on them, better than Christina’s.
Christina was too willful and arrogant. Because of her brother Bradley’s friendship with Kendrick, everyone in their circle had to spoil her.
Silvana was totally different from Christina. She had a gentle, approachable vibe. She always spoke softly and was easy to get along with.
It was a shame someone so nice had ended up divorcing Kendrick.
Back in their private booth, Dianna grabbed Silvana’s arm and asked, “That guy was Kendrick’s friend? He called you Mrs. Villarreal?”
“Yeah, he’s a friend of Kendrick’s. I’ve met him a few times before,” Silvana replied.
Dianna frowned. “Stay away from Kendrick and his crowd from now on. You’re pregnant. You have to be careful. If Kendrick finds out about the baby, he’ll never let it go.”
