Felicia shot Silvana a meaningful glance, not saying anything.
It turned out Silvana was right–Julianne was indeed giving her a hard time on Christina’s behalf. She pursed her lips, pondered for a moment, and then said, “Mrs. Maxwell, if I apologize to Christina, can we put this
behind us?”
Julianne lit a cigarette and shot her a dismissive glance without saying a word.
Deep down, Silvana didn’t want to apologize to Christina at all. But Felicia’s worried, pleading eyes put her under immense guilt. None of this would have happened if it weren’t for her conflict with Christina. But then again, that entire conflict was essentially about Kendrick.
After a moment of hesitation, Silvana asked Julianne for Christina’s
number and called her.
“Ms. Walter, this is Silvana.”
Christina’s lazy voice came through. “I know.”
“I’m sorry,” Silvana said, each word forced out through gritted teeth. Apologizing to Christina was no different from trampling on her own pride.
“Alright. I’m one to forgive and forget. Your apology is accepted,” Christina said quickly before hanging up.
Silvana was left surprised.

then said, “Alright. Now we’ve cleared things up, we can call it a day.”
Felicia’s face quickly broke into a fawning smile. “Our apologies again, Mrs. Maxwell.”
Julianne stood up and walked out, bag in hand. Felicia quickly stood up, too, to see her out. Soon, Silvana was left alone in the private room. Her face went ghastly pale, and waves of excruciating abdominal pain shot through her entire body relentlessly. She pressed a hand against the wall and crouched down, her body screaming to give way at any second.
A waitress passing by spotted her. Sensing that something was off, the waitress quickly stepped inside and asked, “Ma’am, are you alright?”
Silvana said with difficulty, “Call an ambulance.”
She was in immense pain.
It felt like her entire body was being dragged down by an invisible force.
The waitress quickly dialed for an ambulance.

When Silvana opened her eyes again, she found herself in a hospital bed, everything pristine white. It took her a moment to get her bearings.
Felicia was sitting by the bed. She asked with concern, “How are you feeling, Silvana? Are you still feeling unwell?
“You had me worried sick!”
“What happened to me?” Silvana’s voice was utterly hoarse.
She instinctively touched her lower abdomen, relieved to feel no abnormal pain.

“Luckily, you were sent to the hospital in time. You passed out due to low blood sugar and malnutrition. I already called your husband. He should be here any minute.”
Felicia didn’t know she was already divorced.
Silvana wasn’t as happy as Felicia had expected. “What’s wrong? Did you have a row with your husband?” Felicia asked with concern.
“We’re divorced,” Silvana said flatly.
Felicia was taken aback. “W–What? That’s so sudden. I’m sorry… I didn’t know.”
“It’s fine.”
Felicia rushed to explain, her voice full of apology, “He said he’d be here right away. It didn’t sound like you were divorced at all, so I thought everything was fine between you. It never even occurred to me that you were divorced.”
Just then, someone knocked on the ward door, and Kendrick pushed it open to enter.
He and Felicia had only met a handful of times and were barely acquaintances. Felicia was clueless about the divorce, and an awkward silence fell over the room.
Silvana didn’t want to see Kendrick at all, not even for a second. She tilted her head away and looked out the window, as if she hadn’t seen
him.
“I’ll step out so that you can chat.” To Felicia, even though Kendrick and Silvana were divorced, the fact that he was here to visit meant he still cared. Perhaps they had gotten divorced on impulse. Deep down, they still cared about each other.

There were other patients in the ward, and Silvana’s bed was at the far end. She stared out the window, refusing to even shoot Kendrick a glance.
Kendrick walked toward the bed and said, his expression betraying no emotion, “Your friend called me and said you fainted. What’s wrong?”
Instead of answering, Silvana said, “She didn’t know we were divorced and called you without telling me. It won’t happen again. Sorry.”
Her tone was dripping with indifference and detachment.

The last thing she wanted was for him to think she was playing the victim to attract his attention.
Kendrick sat down in silence. Then he said in a devil–may–care way, “Let’s talk.”
“About Christina? Or the apartment?” she asked, her tone sharp.
Both were essentially about Christina.
“You know the answer,” he stated.
So, he wasn’t here for her. It was purely for Christina’s sake. The realization suffocated her, and she let out a cold laugh. “What do you expect me to do?”
“What do you want? Tell me. I’ll make it up to you. Just sell me the apartment,” Kendrick said.
Biting her lip, she turned to look him in the eye, fighting desperately to hold back her tears. “What’s your relationship with Christina?”
He frowned at her words in displeasure, not planning to explain.
“I stood in your way, right?” she smiled sarcastically. “Kendrick, you

didn’t tell me you loved something else when we got married. Why? Why did you propose to marry me when your heart belonged to another
woman?”
He said flatly, “Christina had nothing to do with our divorce.”
“Oh, really? Do you expect me to believe that? Am I that gullible in your eyes?” This time, her sneer grew even more bitter.
Kendrick’s frown deepened, his gaze darkening. This time, he didn’t say anything.
