Escaping 67

Chapter 67

Jessica, sensing the tension escalating, quickly stepped forward. She pulled down Luna’s sleeves, trying her best to deescalate the situation. “Luna, let’s cool down, alright? No need to get fired up… Her voice was practically trembling on the verge of

tears.

If these two really start fighting, Jessica thought anxiously. The entertainment headlines tomorrow will blow up!” The two were glaring at each other with such intensity that Jessica could almost see lightning crackling between them.

It’s terrifying whenever these two cross paths, she thought, her heart racing.

Just as Jessica was convinced fists were about to fly, a frantic voice suddenly rang out from the doorway. “Doctor! Quick! Someone save the patient!”

“Are you okay? Doctor, we need help over here!”

Charles didn’t even have time to argue with Luna anymore. He spun around, racing towards the door in an instant.

The door to the consultation room swung ope

Luna quickly slipped on a mask, and she and Jessica hurried after him.

Outside, a crowd had already gathered.

An elderly man in a black suit lay on the ground, his face

as an ominous shade of blue-gray, clutching his chest in agony.

His lips, a dark purplish-black, twitched as if he were trying to say something, but no sound came out

The previously arrogant Charles was now kneeling beside the old man. He rummaged through the man’s pockets and found

a small medicine bottle.

Charles glanced at the label, and then quickly administered the medication to the old man.

Even while performing CPR, he managed to pull out his phone and make a call: “Fourth floor, outpatient department, cardiology. We’ve got a patient in critical condition. Hurry!”

Not caring about the phone slipping from his grasp, he let it crash to the ground

His entire focus was on the elderly man before him. The casual, cocky persona he had shown earlier had completely vanished.

The hospital staff arrived in a frenzy, pushing a stretcher.

The medical team said, “Make way, please.”

The onlookers scattered, giving the medical team space to move.

The elderly man was lifted onto the stretcher, and Charles jumped on, kneeling on either side of him to continue administering CPR while barking orders.

Charles said, “Nitroglycerin injection, now!”

A team of doctors and nurses whisked the stretcher toward the operating room, and the crowd watched in silence as they rushed away.

Lupa’s gaze fell on the phone lying on the floor. She stepped forward and picked it up.

*For someone so usually scatterbrained, she thought, ‘He sure knows how to handle an emergency with calm precision.

She wondered, “Maybe I misjudged him.

Jessica, too, seemed a little awestruck. Admiration shone in her eyes as she murmured, “Wow… He really is a top-tier cardiothoracic surgeon.”

But as soon as she said it, she froze. Wait… Luna even didn’t like Charles… She nervously glanced at Luna,

But seeing no reaction from her, Jessica ventured closer, nudging her playfully with her elbow. “Luna, didn’t you think Charles looked really handsome just now?”

Luna pocketed the phone without a word.

23%

Then, flicking Jessica on the forehead, she snorted, “Handsome, my foot. Don’t go getting crushes on every guy you see.”

She thought, I didn’t even see his face. What’s so handsome about that?’

Jessica chuckled sheepishly, not arguing further.

Luna shot a glance towards the emergency room and then spoke decisively, “Come on, let’s go see what happens.”

Outside the Operating Room

This part of the hospital was much quieter than the outpatient clinic. Only a few people sat scattered on the chairs, waiting.

Though Luna was also waiting, she wasn’t idle. She sat with a script in her hands, reading it intently.

Jessica looked at her with concern. “Luna, why don’t you take a break? You’re at the hospital already, and you’re still working?”

She unscrewed the lid of a thermos and handed it to Luna

Luna took a small sip, soothing her throat, and replied softly, “We’re about to start filming. If I don’t stay on top of things, I won’t have enough time.”

Knowing it was pointless to argue, Jessica fell silent

dun. “What is it?”

Just as Luna was engrossed in her script, she felt Jessica nudge her arm. She instinctively looked up. “What is it?” Luna asked.

Jessica gestured towards the door of the operating room. Luna followed her gaze.

There, a man in his fifties with half-gray hair stood, dressed in a white coat. Though his mask covered everything below his hose, his eyes radiated a kind, yet authoritative presence.

However, in his hand, he held a bamboo stick about two fingers wide and half an arm long, and his expression was filled with

anger.

Jessica, sensing trouble, whispered nervously, “What’s he going to do with that?”

Luna shook her head, equally confused. At that moment, the door to the operating room opened.

Charles stepped out, only to immediately be greeted by the bamboo stick whacking him on the behind.

“Ouch!” Charles exclaimed.

The older man, seethed with fury as he continued to whack his son. “I told you not to argue with your patients, didn’t And you’re at it again!”

Charles yelped in pain, hopping around while clutching his rear. “Dad. I just got off the operating table!”

It must’ve been that woman who complained, Charles thought, If I catch her, she’s going to regret it.”

David, panting slightly, pointed the bamboo stick at Charles and scolded, “One thing at a time, let me deal with you first!”

David’s hand didn’t falter as he continued to whack hus son.

Luna couldn’t help but squint and chuckle. Just watching this makes me feel the pain, she thought

Jessica was so startled she shrank back, swallowing nervously. Dr. Kessler’s dad is terrifying

In the midst of dodging another hit, Charles spotted Luna sitting in the chair.

His anger flared instantly. Pointing an accusing finger at her, he shouted, “It was you, wasn’t it? I knew you’d sell me our?”

The bamboo stick came down on him again, and Charles yelped, rubbing his sore backside.

Luna’s expression darkened. ‘Did this guy really just accuse me of snitching? Any favorable impression she had of him. evaporated in an instant.

She shot to her feet, slamming the script onto the chair. Rolling up her sleeves, she planted her hands on her hips and retorted, “You think I’d bother reporting you? How dare you slander me!”

She thought. There’s a limit to what I can tolerate.”

David, his chest heaving, scolded his son again, “You brat! This has nothing to do with her-I saw it all on the clinic’s

cameras!”

Jessica was now in full panic mode. She rushed forward, grabbing Luna’s arm and pleading, “Luna, please, just let it go…..

“To keep tomorrow’s headlines from exploding,’ she thought desperately, ‘I have to hold her back.”

The scene was utter chaos. Even the bystanders, who had been enjoying the show, stepped in to break up the fight

But Luna’s anger was not so easily quelled. She was seething. ‘If I don’t beat this jerk until he’s begging for mercy, I won’t be

called Luna!

She roared, “Charles, you’re not getting away with this today!”

But just as she was about to charge at him, Luna suddenly felt a heavy weight pressing down on her chest. Breathing became difficult.

She clutched her chest, her strength draining away as the world around her faded into darkness. She collapsed, losing

consciousness.

Jessica’s face went pale. “Luna!” she cried.
