So that’s what this was about.
I couldn’t tell what Ruth and Mrs.
Johnson had talked about, but Mrs. Johnson’s look towards me was filled with disdain.
“These days, everyone with a bit of looks rushes to be a mistress. They claim it’s for love, but we all know it’s really about the money.”
She turned to affectionately take Ruth’s hand.
“You, my dear, are just too kind–hearted, which is why people take advantage of you.”
Then, turning back to me, her gaze was starkly different – full of contempt.
I suddenly remembered my mother mentioning Mrs. Johnson‘ s gossip. Apparently, her husband had an

illegitimate child with his mistress and
wanted to bring him back to inherit the family business.
No wonder she hated me so much.
It seemed she had mistaken me for a
mistress based on what Ruth had said.
“Mrs. Johnson, the necklace is indeed
with me, but I didn’t take it.”
I looked at Ruth.
“Someone deliberately spilled wine on me and placed the necklace in the dress. Right? Miss Lane?”
Mrs. Johnson glanced at Ruth.
As a sharp woman, she would certainly understand the situation from my what I said.
Apparently, her aversion to mistresses was so great that she ignored me completely. She called for security, accusing me of theft.

Instantly, all eyes were on me, some
whispering.
“Isn’t this your ex?”
“Theft? How did someone like that even get in here?”
“Kian, aren’t you going to help her?”

Kian’s friends started talking to him as soon as they saw me.
“I’ll help when she begs me,” said Kian
His attitude was a stark contrast to Jordan‘ s.
I found myself scanning the crowd, searching for Jordan, but he was nowhere to be found.
Ruth leaned in close and sneered softly.
“Looking for Jordan? He’s long gone. He was just playing around; did you actually believe him?”

Caught off guard, I was suddenly yanked by
her.
“Audrey, even if you really want that necklace, you can’t steal it. This is a keepsake from Mrs. Johnson’s wedding.
Ruth held the necklace in her hand as if presenting a treasure to Mrs. Johnson.
Unable to tolerate it any longer, I slapped Ruth across the face.
“Stop your bullshit.”
Ruth fell to the ground, and people around us looked stunned, especially Kian.
“The necklace wasn’t taken by me. I’ve already called the police.”
I addressed Mrs. Johnson with a firm voice, enough for everyone around us to hear.
When the police arrived, they discovered that the surveillance footage showing me was erased.
Without evidence, my innocence couldn’t

be proven.
I didn’t know when Kian had moved to
my side.
“Beg me, and I might help you.”
He spoke as if he was doing me a favor.
The next moment, I was pulled into a warm embrace. Before I could react, a voice came from above my head.
“The evidence is here. I’ve just had someone recover the data.”
It was Jordan. It turned out that he had been away to help recover the footage.
“The person who took the necklace was caught on camera.”
He paused for a moment.
“And… this person also bribed the maid to frame my girlfriend. Mr. Johnson, you should handle this as you see fit.”
Ruth, sitting on the ground, had lost all her previous arrogance.

Mrs. Johnson was pulled aside by her husband for a scolding.
“Don’t you have any sense of shame?”
He pointed angrily at a young man beside him.
“You‘ re just as much to blame for this mess. I think we should let your brother handle the company from now on.”
Mrs. Johnson was crying, desperately trying to explain to her husband.
Even though I found her husband‘ s behavior distasteful, it wasn’t really my business. She knew perfectly well that I hadn’t taken the necklace but still sided with Ruth.
