Chapter 2
Dead silence on the other end.[]
When he finally spoke, his voice was low. “Maddie came to see you? I had no clue.“[]
Where you at? Ill come grab her right now.” 0
When Blake showed up, still rocking that delivery uniform, he actually asked for shoe covers.[]
I’m like forget it, just get her ass out.]
But he goes. “You’re super neat. I should probably cover up.“[]
Madison saw this and let out the coldest laugh.[]
Don’t even bother. I’m leaving.“[]
Walking past him, she got all emotional:“Blake, when you come home and crash on the bed in your nasty work clothes, when you leave your crusty socks everywhere–you ever think about ME the way you think about Raven?!”
With that, she ran off crying.]
I stood there with my arms crossed, staring at Blake.[]
After forever, I sighed: “Look, whatever’s going on, you really gotta work on basic hygiene.“[]
But Blake just gave me this weird, complicated smile.[]
Thing is, Raven, I’m so burnt out lately. Can’t keep up with all that stuff.“]
I nodded.
This is exactly why being poor terrifies me.[]
Even someone as smooth and polished as Blake–once the money dried up, dude became a total slob.[]
But something about his whole act felt… weird.[]
Probably just pregnancy hormones making me paranoid.[]
Next day, I Venmo’d Blake twenty grand.[]
Note: [Don’t make this a habit]
Being soft was gonna bankrupt me.
If I kept feeling sorry for everyone, who was gonna feel sorry for this baby mama?
After sending it, checking my bank balance finally let me sleep.]]
But ever since Blake found my address, random DoorDash orders started showing up.]
Sometimes groceries–organic everything from Whole Foods.
Sometimes desserts from that fancy bakery in WeHo.[]
Sometimes Starbucks runs.]]
Sometimes full meals–sushi from Nobu, steaks from Ruth’s Chris, even In–N–Out.[]
Nothing crazy expensive, but all my favorite spots.[]
If Blake hadn’t texted each time saying he ordered it, I would’ve thought someone was trying to poison me.[]
Figured he was just saying thanks for the twenty grand.[]
So I ate everything.]
While munching, I’d rub any bump: “This is from daddy, little one“]

Chapter 2
“What? You don’t like it?“]
“Don’t be picky. Daddy’s broke right now.”
“Just deal. Tomorrow mama’s taking you somewhere fancy.”
But when I actually sat in that Michelin star restaurant in Bel Air, eating the chef’s bougie creations, I kept picturing Blake across from me in his Tom Ford suit, all proud showing off some Tiffany diamond necklace.[]
When we first hooked up, I knew Blake had this girl he couldn’t get over.
His college obsession–Madison Wells.
But he never sealed the deal with her.[]
So he went full workaholic mode instead.[]
And used some serious bling to lock me down.[]
Guess I was just thirsty as hell.[]
Grew up in some nowhere town in Wyoming, made it to LA, almost got trafficked by some sketchy modeling agency.
Job hunting was brutal–met every kind of creep and con artist.[]
So when Blake opened that jewelry box and goes, “Raven, be with me,” I didn’t even hesitate.]
When I found Madison’s photo hidden in his desk, it barely stung.]
Madison and I don’t really look alike.[]
Just got that same vibe.]
What was I really losing anyway?[]
Nothing major.
I still had money, designer bags, closets full of gorgeous clothes.[]
Hot, loaded sugar daddy who treated me like a queen–what more could a girl want?]
So when Blake’s princess came crawling back, I took that five mil and bounced without looking back []
Can’t be too greedy.[]
I’d already gotten more in twenty four years than I ever thought possible growing up
As for true love? Nah. That’s not for girls like me.[]

I sniffled while shoving expensive caviar in my mouth, telling the waiter, “Keep it coming“]
Right after finishing, my phone rang.[]
“Hi! Your boyfriend–Blake something–got hit by a car doing deliveries. Can you come to Cedars–Sinai?”
