Chapter 3
I clutched my stomach, trembling from the pain.
Someone in the crowd shouted, “She’s bleeding!
This pregnant woman is bleeding!”
A sharp cramp tore through my abdomen.
Something wet spread between my legs, and red stains soaked through my white dress.
Benjamin froze, turning back to gaze down at me with conflicted eyes: “Rachel, if you hadn’t pushed Kim on purpose, this wouldn’t have happened… Don’t blame anyone.”
I shook my head desperately, tears streaming as my voice quivered:
“It wasn’t me.
It wasn’t. –
Benjamin tightened his hold on Kim. His voice was gentle, but the words he spoke were cold.
“Just bear it. We were going to terminate this baby anyway. This just saves the trouble. But Kim needs to dance. Her feet can’t be injured.”
Then he ignored me curled on the floor.
He stepped right over me and rushed into the emergency room with Kim in his arms.
I begged the onlookers, broken:
“Help me… please help me… Help!”

The crowd murmured in pity, yet no one offered aid. Instead, cameras clicked, capturing my agony.

The last thing I saw before passing out was a doctor rushing out, lifting
me onto a stretcher.
I woke up three days later. The doctor regretfully told me the baby was gone, urging me to rest and not grieve.
But I just smiled calmly.
Gone… That‘ a relief.
My baby didn’t deserve to be born into a family full of lies. More importantly, everything about Benjamin now filled me with utter revulsion.
After discharge, I packed the residency cancellation documents into a storage pouch at home.
Tomorrow, I’d vanish from Benjamin’s sight forever!
Suddenly, Benjamin embraced me from behind. I froze, then struggled violently: “Let go!”
He murmured soothingly, “Still upset?
I told you, the baby was deformed. Giving birth would’ve only hurt you. I couldn’t bear that.”
I laughed coldly, staring at him:
“Is losing one baby after another really that trivial to you?”
He pulled me tighter, voice faltering: “It’s not like childbirth takes much effort. We can always have more children, can’t we?”
Tremors of rage shook my body.

How could anyone be so shameless?
How could he say such things?

Before I could resist, he swept me into his arms and threw me onto the bed: “Rachel, let’s make another…”
My pupils shook in disbelief:
“Have you lost your mind?!
I just miscarried!”
Benjamin kissed me, commanding: “Have another baby. Be good… How about a son this time?”
I slapped him hard across the face.
Stunned, he blinked before rage flashed in his eyes: “You hit me?”
I curled defensively and glared at him in silent hatred.
He clenched his jaw and forced a stiff smile: “You’re grieving. I’ll forgive you. I’ll sleep in the guest room.”
Long after he left, I kept trembling.
But I was still too naive, thinking Benjamin had obediently gone to the guest room. Late at night, when I got up for water and passed by the guest
room,
I saw through the door crack Benjamin kissing Kim fiercely.
Kim hooked her arms around Benjamin’s neck, cooing seductively, “Get her pregnant soon. I can’t wait to have a son. Or should I just carry the baby myself?”

Benjamin kissed Kim all over, his voice husky,

“Don’t worry, she’ll conceive quickly. You shouldn’t bear children. It’s too painful. I can’t bear to see you suffer.”
Then came sounds that made one blush…
So it wasn’t that Benjamin didn’t know childbirth was agonizing.
It‘ just that the person he truly cares about has never been me.
