Chapter 1
I’d given birth to nine children for Benjamin Mitchell, but every one vanished without exception before their first birthday.
I endured the agony of losing a child again and again. I shattered completely, even developing mental illness.
Yet Benjamin stayed by my side, shielding me from all gossipHis eyes reddened with heartache as he soothed me: “We’ll have more children. I’ll always love you.”
I believed him, willingly conceiving our tenth child.
Then, when the baby turned one, I caught him giving the child to his new mistress. His buddies joked beside him:
“Having such a fertile wife is the best–she just keeps popping kids.”
“Benjamin sure knows how to play. Every new mistress gets a baby as a gift. Cars, houses, babies… They can become a mom without trouble. What woman wouldn’t love that?”
Benjamin chuckled, lighting a cigarette carelessly:
“They’re all young girls. Childbirth wrecks their bodies–I can’t bear that. Professional matters should be left to professionals, right?”
Raucous laughter filled the room.
Only I stood frozen outside the door, my swollen belly protruding, icy dread seizing me.

Beside them, Kim Hill cradled the baby, frowning in complaint:
“Why’s it a girl?”

Kim tugged Benjamin’s sleeve, pouting: “Benjamin, I want another child. I want a boy. I don’t like girls.”
He pulled her close, smiling indulgently: “Fine. Whatever gender you want, I’ll make her bear it.”
The child squirmed restlessly in Kim’s arms. Kim impatiently pinched its thigh secretly. The baby wailed, only to have its mouth muffled by Kim.
She hissed a warning: “Quiet!”
My heart clenched like a fist.
I’d dug my nails into my palm until it bled, but I didn’t even feel it. I trembled when watching the scene unfold.
Kim whined on: “Ugh, handing it over at one year old? It’ll never bond
with me! I want a newborn!”
Benjamin lowered his gaze, brimming with doting: “What do you know?
Infants are exhausting–that’s why she raises them first. It can pare you the
trouble.”
He leaned close and whispered in Kim’s ear: “I’d be heartbroken if you got even a single wrinkle.”
Kim tapped him coquettishly,
A buddy spoke up hesitantly: “But… what if something goes wrong with your wife? She keeps having babies, and keeps losing them?”
Benjamin’s expression flickered for a moment, but his voice remained flat:

“She’s a breeding machine. What’s a few kids given away?
If needed, I’ll settle down in a few years and let her bear some kids belonged to us as compensation.”
Filthy remarks swirled through the room.
Someone even suggested I bear more children to please their parents.
Benjamin agreed to each request with a smile.
My legs gave way and my mind went blank
Clutching my six–month pregnant belly, I fled in a panic.
When I got home, I locked myself in my room.

I clapped a hand over my mouth to muffle any sound that might escape.
The soul–crushing grief I’d endured time and again–all orchestrated by the man sharing my bed, the father of my children…
He’d handed our children to his mistresses, one after another.
Every time he had a new mistress, he took another child away from me.
This time, the mistress by his side became his childhood sweetheart, Kim.
I burst into tears and screamed hoarsely.
I beat my belly violently, desperate to abort the unborn baby inside.
I had once looked forward to every child Benjamin and I would have.
Now, everything about Benjamin just felt utterly disgusting.
Benjamin didn’t come home until midnight.

As soon as he walked in, his eyes reddened, and he knelt before me: “Rachel Hill, I’m sorry, the child… taken out by the nanny this morning, actually went missing…”
Seeing I didn’t react,
He stepped forward, grabbed my hand, and his eyes burned with urgency: “I’ve ordered a city–wide search. We’ll definitely find the baby, believe me.”
This was the tenth time he’d said this to me.
The ridiculous part was, every time, he failed.
Benjamin expected me to break down, to scream and cry, but this time, just calmly replied, “I know.”
Benjamin’s eyes widened in shock.
Before he could ask about my odd behavior, a phone call interrupted.
When he answered, my sharp ears picked up Kim’s voice, sweet and coquettish: “Benjamin, little girls are such a hassle. I want the one in Rachel’s belly now…
I couldn’t hear the rest clearly, nor did I want to.
After Benjamin left, I picked up my phone without hesitation and first scheduled the residency cancellation in five days.
Then, I dialed that number.
