The next day, Silvana went back to the studio. Sherrie was back, and Felicia was there, too. Upon seeing her, Felicia immediately dragged her into the office and asked seriously, “You really got divorced?”
“Yes.” She nodded.
“But why? Kendrick seemed to genuinely care about you yesterday in the hospital. I thought about it all night, but still couldn’t figure out the reason.” Felicia seemed puzzled.
Silvana wasn’t keen on the subject. “It’s not important now,” she said. “We’re divorced.”
“My point is… Did you get your rightful cut in the divorce?” Felicia leaned closer, her voice almost dropping to a whisper. “He’s so wealthy, and so is his family. At least you should have what’s rightfully yours.”
But that wasn’t Silvana’s concern. When she married Kendrick, she hadn’t thought about any of that at all. He had wanted her to do right by him, and she had been moved by how earnest he seemed–that was why she had agreed to marry him on little more than a whim.
Seeing the bewildered expression on Silvana’s face, Felicia gaped at her. “Are you seriously telling me you don’t know a thing about his family?”
“What do you mean?”
“His family’s loaded. How come you don’t know after being married to him for years? Don’t tell me you’ve never met his parents.”
Silvana had never been good at hiding her feelings, and Felicia saw through her immediately. Felicia continued, “One of my clients went to

college with Kendrick and once posted a photo of them on Instagram. I asked him out of curiosity and found out about Kendrick’s family background.
“His family is in private equity. So is he.”

Silvana had heard a thing or two about private equity investment, but it had never occurred to her that Kendrick was in that world.
Noticing her pale expression, Felicia didn’t continue. She asked, “Are you alright, Silvy?”
“Yes.” Silvana nodded. “Oh, how’s it going with Mrs. Maxwell?”
“It’s all water under the bridge now, but we’re still dealing with the impact. Losing those orders was a major hit. I’ve asked Sherrie to calculate our losses already.”
Silvana immediately switched into work mode. “I’ll go and try to think of something to reduce them.”
Felicia nodded. “As long as we get through this.
Silvana nodded in agreement.
“I know these days have been tough on you,” Felicia continued. “Perhaps you should take the chance–since we don’t have many orders–and take some time off. Your health beats everything else.”
They had known each other for a long time already, and Felicia hated to see something happen to Silvana.
Silvana smiled, “Don’t worry. I’m doing just fine.”
Looking at her, Felicia hesitated. But eventually, she didn’t say anything
else.

In the afternoon, Silvana was immersed in work when a sudden call interrupted her train of thought. It was from her father, Garrett Mendoza.
She couldn’t even remember the last time they had spoken to each other. Garrett’s voice sounded so foreign. To her, he was more like a stranger who happened to be related to her by blood.
“When are you free?” Garrett asked.
Instead of answering, she asked back, “Why?”
“It’s been so long since we talked. Do you still remember you have a father? Why couldn’t you at least call once in a while? Or you’re planning on showing up at my funeral only?”
She fell silent.
Garrett continued, “Olivia got admitted to Olandale University. Since you’re in Olandale, I want you to take care of her. She’s never been there and knows no one there.”
Silvana couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh. Of course. She knew it- Garrett had only called because he wanted a favor. However, she didn’t turn him down right away. She said, “Olivia has you, hasn’t she?”
“Linette is in poor health and has been hospitalized. Besides, I’m swamped with business.”
Linette Reynolds was Garrett’s second wife, and Olivia Mendoza was their daughter.
Silvana found Garrett as thick–skinned as ever. He had actually wanted her to take care of his precious daughter? How ironic!
Meanwhile, Garrett continued, “As for you, you haven’t got married, right? You’re not getting younger, and you should hurry up. Or you’re gonna regret it in a few years.”

“I’m divorced,” she said calmly.
“Come again?”

“When did you get married? Were you tricked? Who’s the man? I’ll go find him.”
Garrett sounded genuinely angry, no different from a loving father. If it were before, Silvana might have fallen for his facade for a second, but not anymore. Now, she wasn’t touched at all. She felt only irony.
After he finished speaking, she said indifferently, “This is my business. It has nothing to do with you.”
Garrett fell silent. After quite a few seconds, he said, raising his voice, “No matter what, you’re my daughter. Now that you’ve been treated unfairly, what if word gets out? I’ll be so humiliated.”
What he cared about was nothing but his pride. It never occurred to him that what really made him the laughing stock was that, as a father, he had no idea his daughter was married and then divorced.
“Tell me! Who is that man?” Garrett grew more furious. “How dare he marry you without my permission? Without so much as a visit or a gift? I’m your father! Does my approval mean nothing to him?”
Compared to Garrett, who was worked up, Silvana appeared very calm. “I told you already. My marriage is my business. Besides, we’re already divorced. We split up on good terms. Dwelling on this is pointless. Consider yourself merely informed.”
Garrett was so furious that he slammed the phone down and hung up. Silvana, however, remained unaffected and went back to work.
