Chapter 12
Silvana’s eyes reddened even more. She was never one to shed tears–in fact, she had never cried in the face of anything. But in this moment, she found her emotions slipping out of control. Her pent–up pressure and emotions all came flooding over her at once, overwhelming her. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she turned her face away again. “Go away. I don’t want to see you again,” she muttered, her voice thick with emotion.
For some reason, her glistening eyes sent an unexpected pang through Kendrick. They had been together for years, and he couldn’t even remember the last time he had seen her cry.
He didn’t leave. Instead, he stayed until her IV was finished and even insisted on driving her home.
She refused, but Felicia kept persuading her. Kendrick’s insistence on driving Silvana home convinced Felicia even more firmly that their divorce had been an impulsive decision and that they still loved each
other.
Kendrick even opened the car door and reached out to support Silvana out of habit. But she subconsciously flinched back to avoid physical contact with him and then sat in the back seat.
On the way home, she stared out the window in silence, tense.
While driving, Kendrick glanced through the rearview mirror and saw her curled up against the door. Her face was still pale, and she was frowning. Today, she wore a beige blouse and a denim skirt, her long, soft hair cascading over her shoulders, making her look young and docile.
When Kendrick’s car neared Silvana’s apartment building, she asked him to pull over. But he didn’t. Instead, he drove into the complex and said,

Chapter 12
“It’s not like I haven’t been here before.”
He knew where she lived.
The car only came to a steady stop outside her building. She unbuckled the seatbelt, about to get out, only to find the door still locked. She shot him a puzzled look.
He said unhurriedly, “Are you doing OK living alone?”
“What’s your point?” she said nonchalantly.
“I’m just worried about you.”
“Save it.” Her tone was utterly icy, as if she wanted to be as far away from him as possible. “Drop the act.
“You’ve got quite a real temper.” He rolled down the car window and lit a cigarette, filling the car with smoke. “Are you holding a grudge against me?”
All of a sudden, she flashed a smile, her earlier indifference completely vanishing. “Not at all.”
He looked at her through the rearview mirror, his lips curving into a half-
smile. “Liar.”
“Open the door. I want out,” she said.
Instead of listening to her, he took a slow drag and said, “If you really don’t want to sell me the apartment, I won’t force you.”
“Gee, thanks. How can I ever repay you?”
“Silvana, can we have a normal conversation or not?” His tone immediately dropped, the displeased look on his face undisguised.

Chapter 12
She used to be so gentle. When did she become so aggressive?
“If you’re not happy about the way I speak, why bother showing up? I never begged you to come and see me. Mr. Villarreal, I know. Deep down, you didn’t want to see me. The only reason you showed up in the ward was to please Christina, to help her get the apartment. What is it, then? Is she that kinky? Does she get off on someone else’s wedding memories, addicted to sleeping in a bed I used to share with you?”
Silvana hadn’t wanted to fight with Kendrick, and she certainly hadn’t meant to say any of that. She knew–giving voice to these thoughts only embarrassed herself. It would only make him think she hadn’t let go and was still jealous of Christina, and that was why she didn’t want to sell him the apartment.
Kendrick’s expression darkened completely. Running out of patience, he said in a threatening tone, “Mind your words, Silvana.”
Silvana’s chest tightened. Only then did she remember she was pregnant and should avoid huge emotional swings. She took a deep breath, and as suddenly as it had come, the will to fight drained out of her. A deep ache settled into her muscles, the pain so overwhelming that she couldn’t even
form a word.
A heavy, frozen silence descended upon the car.
After a few seconds, Kendrick unlocked the door. With an icy tone, he said, “Get out.”
Without a moment of hesitation, she opened the door and stepped out. Soon, her figure vanished into the building.
She didn’t care when Kendrick left. Another wave of familiar nausea hit her, and she retched for quite a while, looking terrible. She hadn’t had any proper rest in days, and too many things were weighing on her nerves.
She couldn’t pull herself together to improve her condition at all.

However, even so, she had no plan to tell Kendrick about the baby. Given how he was treating her, she was sure he’d force her to get an abortion. She couldn’t take any risks. She had to make plans for her future.
She called Dianna. “Anna, tell your friends they no longer have to find a buyer. If Christina wants the apartment, she can have it. I’ll make sure Kendrick pays a fortune for it.”
Dianna sounded surprised. “What happened? Did Christina threaten you?”
“No, she didn’t. I just feel it’s unnecessary to turn down the money. Christina loves it here, doesn’t she? I might as well sell it to her. I don’t want the apartment anyway, and Kendrick’s already made his position clear.”
In that moment, Silvana was filled with nothing but regret. She should have agreed to sell the apartment to Christina sooner. That way, none of this would ever have happened..
