Chapter 15
Ralphine was scared.
he walked the silent hallways and out of the palace she was worried she would never be what the Lycans needed. She was worned they would think of her differently and that they olds listen to her. She was scared they wouldn’t trust her, then again, if she was being honest with herself, she wasn’t sure why she had agreed to this in the first place
It was like she was shooting herself in the leg while hoping to make friends out of pity. It would never work, it never worked. But what if she would be brave enough to help them through all that? What if she would be able to get the rogues to back off? Would the scenes look at her differently?
“Your Highness, this is risky. You can still take a step back and let Viktor and Heion take the lead,” Kara said and Kalpline truly understood her.
Ralph had no previous war training and she was essentially useless to the battalion, but she had to try and take a stance. Her mate was out unconscious, because of the tiresome three days she had unintentionally put him through. Granted, there were so many things that could go wrong, but this time, Ralph was hoping that she would be able to represent the visible man.
“Kara. I need to be here. I may not be strong like Ibrahim, but the rogue warlocks don’t know that. They are threatened by my presence here, and we can use that against them. As for the warriors, I don’t know how they have been at war previously, but I know that without Ibrahim, they will be demoralized. At least if I am with them there, however useless I may be, they will be motivated to keep on fighting.” Ralph said softly to Kara who stared at her in awe.
The maidservant Kara hadn’t expected this of the woman, but Ralph herself hadn’t expected that she would be doing this. She was the weakest creature in the Lycan kingdom, Asmoria, but perhaps this would count for something, right? Maybe this would motivate the warriors or maybe it would let them know that even though they are alone, they were never really alone. However, would it work?
“Then I’ll join you. I am the servant assigned to you, and must be beside you at all times- Kara said as she stripped there. making Ralph stare at her like the woman was bonkers. Kara didn’t look anything like a warrior, but compared to Ralph, she looked way stronger. Perhaps they could blend in, but was that a risk that Ralph was willing to take!
“No, Kara. Go to your family. Be with them. I’ll take it from here,” Ralph said as she heard the warriors shouting in the distance. The chaos was intense and she wished that Miroslav was awake. But then the king wasn’t. She had decided to step up and right now, there was no going back, especially given she could see the Lycans watch from their windows
The Asmoria Lycans were watching in shock, while others were watching in awe. Some were proud of her for stepping up even if she wasn’t as strong as the lot of them. The fact that she was willing to show up for them even though she hadn’t been officially installed as their queen gave them hope in humanity and the hope that perhaps the universe wasn’t really a terrible place and they could all make one happy community.
“I insist, Your Highness,” Kara said as she kept stripping and Ralphine just stared at the transformation of the woman before her. She hadn’t expected this, but she wasn’t sure how the hell she was to react to this. Kara, her maidservant, was no longer the woman she was used to, the woman who listened to her tantrums and helped her our when she was stressed
Maybe she was still the same, but the one in front of Ralphine was a female Lycan warrior, one who was dressed and ready for battle. It was like there was more than Ralphine didn’t know of, and as the queen–in–waiting struggled to pick her jaw from the floor because of the transformation, Kara just smiled at her sheepishly like this was supposed to make their queen relax. But what if that was truly the intention? Would it make it any easier for Ralph?
“You’re “Ralphine began, but Kara interrupted her, for the first time since they had bene out here, something that made Ralphine wonder how this had come so easily for her. Perhaps there was more than she was being told, right?
“The maidservant assigned to you, and to protect you, I know this might be too much, but if you’re to go join the Warriors. then it’s best for me to do this. I’ll explain everything later on. Come along before the walls come down on us despite your pure intentions,” Kara said and Ralphine wondered if this was right or not. She wanted to ask so many questions but the screams and shouts in the distance reminded her of what she had come out here to do. It didn’t matter that there were so many risks, she would deal with them too.
“Okay” Ralph said before she and her maidservant warrior rushed to the palace where the Lycans were fighting the warlocks. It was one magical fireball after the other and Ralphine felt all the blood drain from her face when she saw a magical treball whirr past her like it was supposed to hit her in the face. This place was crazy. And the fact that both factions were enjoying the battle was something else.

The Lycans didn’t have a queen, or rather they didn’t have one installed yet. But hearing the enforcer’s words made them
onder what the hell was going on here Geion knew Ralph’s inability to fight and he knew so well that Miroslav would have hoshirad if anything did as much as happen to Ralph. It was not a risk he wanted to take,
“The Lycans have a queen?”

There were so many questions in the air, even as the warlocks suddenly decided to withdraw. The Lycan warriors who had come to the battle watched as their enemies ran and disappeared. It raised even more questions as to why they could leave like that, when it was more than obvious that the queen Heion was talking about wasn’t even ready yet.
Then again, everyone in the realm knew that the universe just didn’t pair mates for the sake of it. The fact that their queen was the mad King’s Erasthai had so many red flags written all over it and the sooner they started to come to terms with that the sooner they would be able to understand just what the hell was expected of them. It wasn’t going to be easy. At least that much they were sure of
“I asked a question. Kara, what the fuck is SHE here? And where the hell is the King?” Heion asked, his voice filled with anger and disappointment at the sight.
Ralphine looked at Heion, the worry on her face so evident. She had heard of the king’s cruel enforcer and she had also heard of the untamable Lycan king’s beta. They were all here, along with the warriors, staring at her in question as they waited for whatever answer Kara had for them.
“I insisted on being here. Ralphine said, her voice so empty like she wasn’t sure what the fuck was wrong with these people. They were safe thanks to her, but then she had a feeling that if she said that to the warriors, she would probably stone her or glare endlessly at her. So, she just stopped at her last statement. She had to wait it out and see what the hell was going on.
“Oh yeah? Well, that’s fantastic and so kind of you. Oh hey, did you tell the barbarian at the palace doors that you were coming to get us all in trouble! Or did it never occur to you that there was a damned fucking treason you haven’t even been introduced as the queen yet?” Heion asked frustratedly as he threw his weapons on the ground and walked towards his brother’s mate.
He could see she had healed, and she looked way better than the first time he had seen her, not to mention the fact that her heat had fucked up the entire kingdom, a truth she didn’t know of yet, but now that it was over, at least the warriors could relax. However, how long would that happen when their king was walking on eggshells around her like she was some delicate trophy that needed to be protected at all times? Was this what it was supposed to be?
Watch it, Heion. She is my assignment and if you fuck with that, I will break your face, enforcer or not,” Kara suddenly said. her voice totally different from the submissive down–to–earth tone she always used with Ralph.
Right now, she was using a warrior’s voice, one that had so much power; it was almost like she was reminding Heion of something that could cause chaos in the kingdom. The warning was clear, the line had been drawn and Kara was slowly winning this, much to Ralphine’s amusement even though she could feel her head spinning so fast.
“Which barbarian?” Ralphie asked as she turned to look at the palace doors but there was no one there. Evans Heion turned like he was about to tell the queen of what he had seen; however, he changed his mind because there was no one there.
“Yknow what, Kara? Take good care of your assignment then. She might just get us all killed because of her recklessness. Let’s all get the fuck out of here. Heion said and Viktor just sighed
Viktor wanted to say something, anything to ease the situation, but he noticed how Ralphine was looking at him. He could see she recognized him and she was probably still mad about the entire thing with her parents, but was she to blame the King’s beta for something her former pack’s alpha had done willingly?
“You’re right. I’ll take her out of here. Make sure to remember that he is your queen too. Hei. If you forget that a little too often. You won’t have to worry about so many heads, given yours will roll first. Kara said, her tone matching Heion’s, atud. Ralphine just sighed.
She couldn’t take her eyes off of Viktor, but the man was walking away. Ralph was desperate for answers, but what answers would Viktor be able to give her? She was just the king’s messenger and all he had done was in respect to the king. If there was

someone whom Ralphine could get answers from, then it would be the king.
However, what were the chances that Ralph would get her answers this time?
- Can we please get out of here?” Ralphine asked as she faltered in her steps.
As you wish, Your Highness My apologies for today,” Kara said as she held Ralph and helped her stand still. However, even she noted that all that time. Ralphie was still watching Viktor’s back which was retreating. She knew this wasn’t going to be easy, but perhaps some things were worth forgetting right?
