Chapter 63
She waited for his response, tapping her fingers impatiently against the side of her phone. But as the minutes ticked by with no reply, her irritation grew. Why wasn’t he responding? With a huff, she sent the photo again, this time with a taunting message: “Honey, did you see? Your precious Luna is out on a date with another man. She didn’t waste any time, did she?”
Lorcia hit send, her grin widening. But a moment later, her smug expression faltered when the message failed to deliver. Confusion turned to frustration as she realized that she had been blocked. Anger simmered beneath the surface as she stared at her phone in disbelief.
Just then, her phone buzzed with an incoming call. She checked the caller ID, and her heart leaped in excitement–it was Lorik. She answered quickly, already forming her words of complaint. “Lorik, did you block me by mistake? You’re supposed to block Shirley, not me! Add me back-”
But Lorik’s voice cut through her whining, cold and distant. “Lorcia, we’re done. Stop with these childish games and move on. I’m warning you–stay out of my life.”
The line went dead before she could respond, leaving Lorcia stunned, her face contorted with fury. She clenched her phone tightly, anger boiling over as she realized she had pushed him too far.
Meanwhile, in his office, Lorik sat on the edge of the sofa, his hand still gripping his phone. The image of Maurice and me lingered on the screen, a painful reminder of the distance between us. In the photo, I looked so serene, my expression softened by the music and Maurice’s attention. Lorik’s jaw tightened as he stared at the picture, his grip on the phone tightening until his knuckles turned-
white.
For a long moment, he fought to keep his composure, breathing deeply to suppress the dark thoughts swirling in his mind. But the more he looked at the image, the more the jealousy gnawed at him. His
heart ached with a familiar pain, a mix of anger, regret, and longing that he couldn’t shake.
Finally, he couldn’t hold it in any longer. With a sudden burst of frustration, he swept the documents from his desk onto the floor, the papers scattering in disarray. The act was a brief release, but it did
little to calm the storm inside him.
As he stood there, breathing heavily, the door to his office opened, and Lorik’s Beta Panther walked in. He froze, taken aback by the sight of the mess. For a moment, BETA hesitated before bending
down to collect the scattered documents.
BETA had seen this side of Lorik before–volatile, cold, prone to outbursts. It was a side of him that had been more prevalent before Shirley came into his life. Her presence had softened him, brought out a gentler, more patient side that few people ever saw. But now, with her gone, Lorik seemed to

he slipping back into his old ways, the temper that had once defined him resurfacing.
The flight to Serevia City is booked for early this morning,” BETA said cautiously, keeping his tone neutral. “You can leave for the airport now if you wish.”
Lorik didn’t respond immediately, his eyes fixed on the phone in his hand. Finally, he nodded, though the irritation in his expression hadn’t faded. “I know,” he muttered, his voice edged with
frustration.
BETA stepped back, sensing that Lorik was on the verge of another outburst. He had seen this pattern before, the way Lorik’s mood darkened whenever Shirley was involved. It was as if she had become his anchor, and without her, he was adrift.
But then, as if on a whim, Lorik picked up his phone and dialed a number. BETA watched in surprise as Lorik’s entire demeanor shifted, his voice softening as he spoke into the phone.
“It’s the first day in Serevia City,” Lorik said, his tone gentle, almost tender. “How are you feeling? Are you adjusting to everything?”
Panther, Lorik’s BETA was stunned by the change. The gruff, irritable man who had just thrown papers across the room seemed like a different person now. Whoever was on the other end of the line had managed to calm him, to bring out a side of Lorik that few ever saw.
Beta stood quietly, unsure of what to make of this transformation. He didn’t know what the other person said, but it was clear that Lorik’s mood had been soothed, the storm in his eyes receding just
a little.
The thought filled BETA with a deep sense of unease as he watched Lorik, the man who had once been feared for his cold–bloodedness, now struggling with emotions he had long tried to keep buried. He was a little curious. What had the other man said that had calmed down such an irascible
