Chapter 54

I sat down in front of the piano, my fingers hovering just above the keys as I took a deep breath. The familiar weight of the instrument beneath my hands brought a sense of calm, the world outside

fading away as I prepared to play. Shadow, who had handed me the crumpled sheet music, stood off to the side, his expression a mixture of skepticism and curiosity

I began to play, the first notes flowing gently from the piano like a stream trickling over smooth stones. The melody was soft, tender, and full of emotion, each note carefully chosen and placed. The room seemed to come alive with the sound, the music wrapping itself around us like a warm embrace. The skepticism on the Shadow’s face gradually melted away, replaced by something closer awe. His eyes widened as the piece unfolded, the notes weaving a tapestry of beauty and grace

The melody climbed higher, each note a step closer to the heavens, and I could feel the music

resonating within me, stirring memories I had long kept buried. Shadow stood frozen, his breath

caught in his throat as the song reached its peak, the piano singing with a voice all its own. The final notes lingered in the air for a moment before slowly fading into silence, leaving the room filled with a profound stillness

He was completely frozen, his mouth slightly agape, as if he couldn’t believe what he had just heard

How do you know this tune?he finally managed, his voice tinged with surprise. How did you do that? It’s amazing.”

I smiled softly, a hint of nostalgia in my eyes. I wrote this song,I said simply

Shadow looked at me incredulously, his expression one of disbelief. You wrote this?he asked, his

voice shaky. I heard it years ago. Buthow could you have written it?”

I nodded, my smile fading as I thought back to that time. When did you hear this song?I asked

gently

He thought for a moment, his brow furrowed in concentration. It was three years ago, in the

winter,he finally said, his voice quiet

I paused, the memory of that cold, lonely winter day coming back to me with startling clarity. That was my last day of school,I said, my tone grim. I checked out of school that day and wrote the song in this very piano room. I didn’t expect anyone to remember it.”

Shadow was clearly taken aback. He remained silent for a long time before finally saying. I really don’t understand you,He said softly, shaking his head. You’re so talented, yet you gave up on everything worthwhile in life.”

His words hit me harder than I expected. He didn’t know the full story, the reasons behind my Choices, like the fact that I left school partly because I hadn’t awakened my wolf. But he was right in way. I had given up on so much, choosing instead to marry Lorik soon after dropping out. I had sacrificed my dreams for loveor so I had thought

But now, as I sat there with the piano keys still warm beneath my fingers, I realized that it wasn’t too late. I could still create, still bring my music into the world

I straightened my posture, feeling a renewed sense of determination. I’ve started creating again,I said, my voice firm

The teenager, who I knew as Shadow now, looked at me with a sparkle of admiration in his eyes. I’ll be your first fan,he declared, a wide grin spreading across his face. And you should get back into

acing too. A talent like yours shouldn’t be buried.”

His words brought to mind the message I had received from the team manager the other day. They had mentioned considering my return. I hadn’t made a decision yet, but maybe it was time to think

about it seriously

Reaching into my bag, I pulled out the sheet music I had prepared. Shadow’s eyes lit up as he took the papers from me, marveling at the notes that danced across the page. Thank you,he said earnestly. Is there anything I can do for you in return? Any wishes?”

I paused, thinking. Then, an image from earlier that day came to minda playground advertisement I had seen while on the road. It was such a simple thing, yet it stirred a deep longing within me. I want to go to the playground,I said, my voice wistful

Shadow raised an eyebrow in surprise. The playground?he repeated

I nodded. I’ve never been to an amusement park before. I’ve always wanted to ride a Ferris wheel, just once.”

A shadow crossed Shadow’s face as he listened

When I was a child, my parents never took me to amusement parks. They would lock me at home and take Alice instead. After I got married, I devoted myself to taking care of Lorik when he was sick. Once he recovered, he never had the time, nor the willingness, to accompany me to places

couples love to visit

Shadow said, No problem, we can leave now. Only, I would have thought that girls would be more interested in going to this place with their loved ones.‘

Hearing his words, I couldn’t help but give a mocking smile
