Sophia had reached her limit. “Both of you, get out!”
Wendy refused to back down.“Say it! Tell him yourself!”
“I don’t owe you that!”
“Aha! You still love him! You’re stringing him along, trying to get him to divorce me! Sophia, you’re bullying me! I’ll fight you!”
Wendy lunged at Sophia. Sophia stumbled back, just as Jake shoved himself between them, pushing Wendy hard. Wendy fell backward, her foot slipping on spilled soup. She landed hard on the floor with a thud.
“Ow! It hurts!”
Wendy screamed. Sophia looked over and saw blood.
Jake! You hurt me for her?!” Wendy’s face was a mask of disbelief. Seeing Jake’s cold indifference, she glared at Sophia.“Sophia, I won’t let this go. You’ll pay for this!”

Crazy Exes
The hospital staff quickly took Wendy away.

Jake stayed behind, trying to comfort her.
“Get out!” Sophia yelled.
“Sonya, you saw my determination. Believe me, I love you,

“Sophia was furious. She grabbed a tray from the bedside table and hurled it at Jake. He dodged it, but seeing her reach for another weapon, he fled the room.
“Sonya, think about how good I was to you. We can start over!”
Sophia picked up a pitcher and threw it after him. It crashed against the doorframe. Silence descended. Sophia could only hear her own ragged breathing.
Sean arrived shortly after getting the news.
Sophia ran into his arms, tears welling up.
“I want to go home.”
Sean kissed her forehead.“I’ll arrange for them to be transferred to another hospital. They won’t bother you anymore.”
“I just want to go home.”
“Sophia…”
“Honey, let’s go home,” she whispered, looking up at him with pleading eyes. Sean, looking at her vulnerable state, felt a mix of helplessness and adoration.“Okay, I’ll talk to the doctor.”
While Sean spoke to the doctor, Sophia went downstairs to see her friend, Chloe. Chloe was packing her bags.
“Chloe, you’re checking out?” Sophia asked.
Chloe paused, then turned, forcing a bright smile. I’m fine. No need to stay here. Besides, thist place smells like a bleach factory,”
“Are you sure?” Sophia was concerned.
“Of course! I have a new audition!” She made a fist.“I, Chloe, will not be defeated! I’m climbing back to the top!”
Sophia hugged Chloe.“I’ll always be here for you. Lean on me when you’re tired.” Chloe hugged back tightly.“You’re my best friend, forever. And I’ll lean on you forever!”
Relieved to see Chloe’s renewed spirit, Sophia relaxed a bit.
“Where’s Tree?“(Chloe’s boyfriend)
“He’s taking care of the discharge papers.” Chloe rolled her eyes.“He’s acting like my mother hen, nagging me non–stop, insisting I stay at his little bar. I refused, so he wouldn’t let me leave.”
“And you agreed?”
Chloe nodded. ‘Does that make you feel better?”
Sophia let out a breath. “Much better.”

Upstairs, Sean had finished the arrangements. The hospital would send a private nurse to their house daily to check Sophia’s wound and change the dressings.
“Let’s go home!” Sophia exclaimed happily.
Sean kissed her. “Okay, let’s
home.”
Sophia put on her down jacket, hat, and scarf–Sean bundled her up like a burrito- and they got into the elevator.
“I just have a head wound, I’m not postpartum,” Sophia complained, feeling overprotected. Sean wrapped an arm around her.“When you are postpartum, I’ll add another blanket.” Sophia blushed and nudged him.“… I’m not pregnant.”
“Not yet. But I’m trying hard.”
Shut up!”
Two nurses in the elevator seemed to overhear and giggled.
“By the way, you know Wendy, right?” Sean asked.
“Oh, yeah.”
“She had a miscarriage. Just came out of surgery.”
“Oh my god, how did that happen?”
“Apparently, she and her husband fought, and he pushed her, causing her to fall and miscarry.”
“Wow, But I heard the baby wasn’t even his.”
The elevator doors opened, and the nurses left.
Sophia frowned, thinking about Wendy’s miscarriage. She hadn’t done anything to provoke them, yet she got dragged into their mess.
“What do you for dinner?” Sean asked.

Sophia perked up. “Your dumplings, of course!”
Sean smiled.“Okay.”
Back home, Sean made dumplings while Sophia basked in the sunroom, dozing off. At dinner, Sean served her a bowl of dumpling soup. She reached for it, but he pulled it back. “Oops, I put cilantro in it, and you don’t like it.”
Sophia blinked.“I love cilantro.” She did, and he knew it. Why would he think otherwise?
