Chapter 22
“We have to get to the cemetery this afternoon. Jordan, start the ar. Camille put Allen in the seat. She also got in and closed
the car door.
Jordan started the sports car. The car sped away onto the main read and then onto the highway after taking a turn.
As the air rushed into the car through the window, they smelled fresh fragrance of grass and flowers, which was invigorating. Camille saw that there was no car behind them, so he breathed a sigh of relief.
“Mommy, are you feeling–hot? Let me cool it down for you. Alle blinked his bright, black eyes with long eyelashes. He then started fanning Camille with a wildflower he picked up on the roadside.
Camille touched the tip of her son’s nose with hers. “I’m not hot just can’t wait to see your grandpa. I’m excited.”
Allen giggled with his neck shrunk. Tm excited too.”
“You are still indiscreet like before. Why the rush? We won’t be late. Did you hurt your wrist when you closed the car door just now?” Jordan saw Camille’s slightly red wrist from the rearview mirror.
“But I’m glad to see your positive change. The days in Glondom are gone for you. He smiled affectionately. He thought he’d be willing to give them a ride for the rest of his life if he had the chance.
Camille felt uneasy being stared at by him like that. She said with embarrassment, “I’m good as long as my baby son is good. The toughest days are gone, so there’s little I can complain about
Jordan smiled with his lips closed.
At the gate of Leicester Hotel, a car came out of the undergroung garage. “Sir, your car.”
Luke looked away and got in. On his way, scenes of what just happened kept flashing in his mind. Five years were long enough for anything to happen. He still wondered if she really had a boyfriend now.
He thought about the child as well.
He was standing too far from the child to see him clearly.
He leaned backward and placed one hand on the steering wheel and the other out in the air through the window. As the gentle breeze brushed past his hand, he developed very deep doubts about her.
They arrived at the cemetery.
Jordan got out of the car and went past it. Camille had gotten out too.
“Let me.” Jordan took Allen from her hand and carefully put the things in the car on the ground.
Allen stood obediently beside Camille.
“Let me help you with it. You hurt your wrist. This will be too heavy for you.” Jordan took the things.
“No need. It doesn’t hurt that much.” Camille took the bunch of Bowers as well as wine, and fruit. “It’s better that Allen and I

He cracked a smile and looked at her with affection. “Okay, go ahead. I’ll be waiting for you here.”
“Mommy. I’m scared.” Allen’s small hand clutched tightly at Camille’s fingertips.
Camille had a bunch of flowers in her arms, a bag in one hand, and Allen’s hand in the other. She walked slowly as she said,

“Don’t be scared, baby. Today is your grandpa’s death anniversary. We’re family. Your family loves you, so don’t be scared.
“Family like Mommy?” he asked innocently.
She took a deep breath. “Yes, family like Mommy.”
Camille stood in front of the tomb as she looked at it through her misty eyes. Her dad had always loved her, but her dad never knew she had forgiven him on his deathbed. She had never really had any hate for her father, Dennis Shelton.
“Dad, I’m here.”
She crouched and took out the wine her dad used to love. As watery as her eyes were, she was trying her best to smile brightly.
She raised the bottle of wine and said proudly, “Dad, this is very expensive. I bought it for you. Sorry that it took me so long to come here to see you.”
As she smiled, she put the wine in front of the tomb. She put down the flowers too. The greenish–white flowers were in bloom. Camille smiled as she looked at her father’s picture.
She talked a lot as she sat on the ground. It was just like the old days.
Although she was obviously smiling, her tears kept running down her cheeks. She reached out to touch Allen’s face. “Allen, kneel to your grandpa.”
He was too young to understand anything, but he hated to see his mother cry. He kneeled obediently.
he side and looked in a daze at his mom, who was crying sadly.
He stood on one
Camille reached out to wipe the dust off of the picture. Her fingers trembled as she touched the flowers. “Dad, that’s my little boy. You must be surprised, right? In fact, I’m just as surprised as you. The day I came out of prison, I lost you, the most important person to me in the world, in just one day. But guess what? God surprised me with him, my precious little son.
well. Allen is very sweet. You don’t have to worry about me. I’m doing good. I’m doing very
“Don’t cry, Mommy.” Allen extended his small hand to wipe Camille’s tears.
She turned her head, not wanting her son to see her like this.
But it didn’t seem to be working. She stared at the picture on the tomb as she cried. “Dad, I hated you in the beginning. I hated you
for doing that. I also wanted to ask you why you would do that. I heard Trevor hit you because of that matter. 1 have to apologize to you for him. Please forgive him. He only did so because of me.”
She sniffed. “Sorry, Dad. You know what, my days were simple in prison. For the five years in prison, I did some simple work. I love you. I truly do.”
Without her knowledge, it was already time for her to go back. She closed her lips. “Dad, I should get going now. Ineed to work. Goodbye, Dad.”
On her way back, Jordan saw them walking from afar. He ran up to them and threw a look at Camille’s tear–stained face with a frown. He crouched to pick Allen up into his arms. “You must be tired. Come on, get up here.”
He threw a look at Camille. She had averted her eyes to wipe her tears.
It was stuffy in the car. Allen was a little worn out. It wasn’t good for a kid to go to a cemetery, should let Allen go to see his grandfather.
Allen fell asleep in the car. Camille went with Jordan to take Allen to preschool
Outside the preschool, Jordan opened the car door. “Get in. I’ll take you to your company.
but Camille thought she

She threw a look at her watch. It was 2 pm. She looked at Jordan I want… to take a walk by myself. I can walk to my company. You don’t have to worry about me.”
Jordan frowned as he looked at Camille walking away.
Cicadas were singing in summer. Due to the hot weather, Camille took off her three–quarter–sleeved shirt and put it in the crossbody bag she was carrying
She got on the bus and sat down in the far corner of the bus. She thought of stories of the past and fell asleep.
“Excuse me, miss, but I need to get off now. Thank you.” Someone nudged her.
She woke up and made space for the woman beside her, who was going to get off. Only then did she realize her destination was only one stop away. She touched her face with her hands and took a deep breath. She didn’t know how she fell asleep.
While it was still very far from Leicester Hotel, she got off the bus. The way she walked was as casual as ever. She reached up to tuck bits of her hair behind her ears. She grabbed her bags, closed her lips, and walked toward Leicester Hotel
Maybe the sudden silence made her feel uncomfortable all over, but she felt her neck tingle a lot on the bus. The bruise on her wrist was slightly swollen too. She touched her wrist.
Tm back.” Camille walked into the restaurant and bowed to all of her colleagues. She thought of many terrible things that day. She suddenly found the coworkers she spent every day with very agreeable and adorable. She wanted to work there just
like them.
To joke and laugh with them was enough to make her feel happy every day.
She’d worked abroad as an intern. She knew the challenge facing the management staff. She was also deeply aware of her own weaknesses. She was not cut out for competition at work.
“Oh. I missed you so bad. Haha. Jenna handed a cup of cold water to Camille.
She took a sip and felt refreshed as if she was just a bird given shelter amid a rainstorm.
Jenna returned to the bar counter and suddenly looked at Camille. “Get your suit on. It just came to me that the private pool called for two servings of noodles an hour ago. They wanted you to deliver the food. That’s really strange. I mean, aren’t they hungry? They said they’d wait for you to return.”
She was shocked.
A piece of ice fell back into the cup when her mouth widened in shock. She coughed and choked.
She touched her cold lips and wondered who wanted her to bring in the food.
