Freya was just about to snag the contract from Preston’s grasp when he used his height advantage and raised his hand to place it out of
her reach.
“I’m not helping you out for nothing. Where’s my end of the deal?”
Digging into her purse, Freya pulled out a contract and handed it to Preston, saying, “A piece of land in the Dawson family’s district. But I’m not as well–off as Eloise’s family, so I can’t give it away for free.”
Preston said, “Weren’t we clear before? Ten billion, not a penny more, not a penny less.”
Freya’s smile froze when she heard what Preston said. She had always thought Preston was bluffing.
In her past life, Preston casually dropped ten billion to acquire the land owned by Eloise’s family. And because of that, Eloise became the talk of Echo City.
ut this was a benefit Freya wanted no part in! The amount could’ve been seven or eight hundred million. Or even seventy or eighty million! But ten billion was out of the question!
“Preston, are you trying to drag me down with your sinking ship?” Freya nearly gritted her teeth as she spoke.
Preston spending such an exorbitant amount on this land was merely a scheme to launder money from abroad! She’d look at years behind bars if this ever came to light. No, she might even die there!
“Ms. Dawson, I have no idea what you’re talking about. Do you even understand yourself?”
Preston gave Freya a look.
Freya would get implicated if she dared to utter the words, ‘money laundering‘ then.
Freya inhaled sharply, managing to keep up a strained smile. “Mr. Tyler, you jest. I don’t understand.”
“That’s better.” Preston took the contract from Freya’s hands and signed it.
“I’ll transfer the money to your company’s account in a few days.” Preston smiled. “It’s my pleasure to do business with you.” Freya didn’t want to get entangled with someone like Preston. According to her past life events, she was supposed to set up Preston with Eloise. Given Preston’s feelings for Eloise in her past life, he wouldn’t let Eloise face danger and would’ve found a way to dissociate her from money laundering.
But Preston had gone mad! He had chosen her as a partner instead. Wouldn’t that mean trouble for Freya if Preston started falling for Eloise?
As Freya looked at Preston’s cold, impeccable profile, she clenched her teeth. “Forget it. I’ll handle future problems when they come. Right now, I just need to get past this hurdle.” She thought.
As long as she could break off her engagement and distance herself from Eloise and Kieran, these big shots probably wouldn’t bother with the Dawson family anymore. Maybe Preston would even appreciate her risking her life for him and show some mercy in the future, keeping her out of any trouble.
Meanwhile, at the Sutton Group’s office, Kieran sat at his desk, massaging his temples. He noticed it was already half–past seven and had gotten dark outside.
After leaving the Eclipse Lounge the day before, he had opted to stay out. He didn’t know how to face Freya. He must’ve been drunk the previous night, which was the only explanation for letting Freya touch his abs in such a foolishly childish act!
“Mr. Sutton, are you heading home today?” Jarrett asked, barging into the office at an awkward moment.
Kieran gave Jarrett a cold look.
Jarrett immediately corrected himself, “Understood. I’ll go extend the hotel booking.”
