“Enough stalling; I’m going to find my ring now,” Natalia sneered, reaching to grab my clothes. Edward stepped in front of me, swatting her hand away.
“You’re really going to protect her? Fine, just as you wish–I’ll call my husband right now!” Natalia pulled out her phone and dialed.
“Honey, someone’s bullying me and stole that big diamond ring you gave me,” she whined.
“What?! Who would dare bully my wife? Wait… the ring? I’ll be right there!”
Natalia ended the call with a triumphant look. “Just wait; my husband will be here soon, and then you’ll get what’s coming to you.”
I couldn’t wait to see how this would play out, and it seemed Edward shared my sentiment,
as he smirked slightly.
Soon, we heard a man’s voice cursing from the doorway. “Who’s the punk who dared bully my wife? Are they tired of living?”
A man with a similar build to Edward, dressed in a suit and holding a glass, swaggered over to Natalia. She quickly ran into his arms, whining, “Honey, if you’d been any later, I
would’ve been bullied to death!”
My parents and several relatives immediately gathered around, while only Alex stayed back.
“Oh, my dear son–in–law,” my father fawned, “Our Natalia will be counting on you from now on. She’s so delicate; please take good care of her.”
“Honey, you need to stand up for me,” Natalia pouted. “That witch stole my ring; you have
to teach them a lesson.”
Only then did the man follow her pointing finger and look over at us. When he saw us, his eyes went wide, and his face turned ashen. I recognized him as Edward’s driver, Jack.
I glanced at Edward, who was staring at Jack with a dark expression. Jack quickly scurried
over, avoiding eye contact.

Chapter 6
“Today is…my wedding. I apologize for not inviting you both. Let’s sit down and talk this over,” Jack stammered.
Edward replied coolly, “Oh, so it’s your wedding today?”
“Yes, yes! It’s my wedding! You’re both very welcome. Let’s head to a private room and discuss things,” Jack said, trying to lead us away to handle this privately.
Before we could respond, Natalia, with her hands on her hips, glared at Jack. “Husband, not aly are you refusing to defend me, but now you’re even inviting a thief to our wedding?”
Her phony, exaggerated face made me feel sick. My mother chimed in to back her up, “Dear son–in–law, although both girls are my daughters, Kate has never been as sensible as Natalia. That ring is valuable; it might be best to call the police.”
“Fine by me!” I immediately agreed as soon as my mother finished.
Edward added with a smirk, “I agree. Let’s call the police. Since you two clearly think Kate isn’t as worthy as Natalia, there’s no need to hold back.”
All eyes turned to Jack, waiting for his response. I saw Alex slinking away quietly.
Jack plastered on a forced smile for Edward. “Please, Mr. Lewis, don’t–she’s just a foolish girl, causing you both trouble. I’ll handle her right now.”
With that, Jack slapped Natalia hard across the face. The sound echoed, and Natalia fell to the floor, stunned.
My mother rushed forward to help her up. Covering her cheek, Natalia pouted, “Husband, you’d hit me for these two paupers?”
