Three days later, I walked into the law firm where Liam worked. The receptionist looked up and said, “Nina, Attorney Liam is in a case analysis meeting; he’ll be out soon.” []
I paused and replied, “I have an appointment with Jacob.”
Jacob was Liam’s junior colleague and Sara’s childhood friend.
As Jacob and I talked in the meeting room, the door suddenly swung open, and Liam barged in.
“Nina, why didn’t you tell me you were coming?“.
Jacob immediately stood up, took a step, and positioned himself between Liam and me.
“Senior, Nina’s here to see me today.“]]
Liam’s eyes narrowed slightly as he shot Jacob a cold look, his tone mocking. I
“You’re taking on her divorce case?“”
“You think you can win against me?“]
A faint smile curved at the corner of Jacob’s mouth. []
“How would we know if I can’t win if we don’t try?“]
Liam ignored him, frowning as he turned to me.

“Divorce isn’t as simple as you think. Even with Jacob’s help, under our current circumstances, the first hearing would
never grant it.”
“Come on, don’t make this difficult. Let’s go home and talk.”
As Liam reached out to take my arm, Jacob intercepted him.
“Senior, Nina didn’t say she’s going back with you.“[]
Liam’s eyes darkened, his voice barely masking his hostility. I
“Step aside, Jacob. Don’t make me use force.“]
Jacob raised an eyebrow, his tone relaxed.
“Sounds like you’re prepared to let the entire firm hear about your little affair, aren’t you?“[]
Liam froze, his expression turning grim. I looked at him quietly.
“Liam, if you don’t want to take this to court, then let’s proceed with the divorce.“]
“Let’s end this in a month–it’ll save everyone some trouble.“]

Liam’s eyes reddened slightly as he stared at me, not looking away for a moment. []
“End it for good?”
“How can you even say that? Do you know how much this hurts me?” |
“After everything we’ve been through, you want to end it just like that?“]
Jacob suddenly chuckled softly beside us.
“Senior, before asking that, maybe you should ask yourself how you managed to do what you did.“[]
Liam was silent for a moment, then spoke, his voice strained. []
“Nina, this is between us. There’s no need for outsiders to get involved. Let’s go home and talk it over.”

I looked at him impassively, then stood up and thanked Jacob softly.
“I’ll prepare the documents we need. Let’s meet another day.“]
